Integration of Zoho Inventory and Amazon SNS

Zoho Inventory?

Zoho Inventory is a cloud based inventory management software that allows you to access and manage your warehouse efficiently. It helps you to track your shipments and sales, manage orders and customer information, order products from suppliers, and manage inventories. It provides mobile access to all the features of the web application so that you can log in from anywhere. You can also integrate Zoho Inventory with other Zoho applications.

Amazon SNS?

Amazon SNS is the Amazon Simple Notification Service that allows you to send notifications to the users of your app on their computers, phones, and tablets. It allows you to send push notifications to users of your app via email or SMS; it also lets you stream data to these users in the form of an RSS feed. The service supports multiple protocps such as HTTP, TCP, and SQS.

Integration of Zoho Inventory and Amazon SNS

In this section, we will see how we can integrate Zoho Inventory and Amazon SNS together.

Step 1. Sign up for both services – Zoho Inventory and Amazon SNS. Complete the sign-up process by providing your personal details as well as your company details (if you are going to use the services for a business. You will get an AWS-issued Access Key ID and Secret Access Key for the account. Save these credentials securely on your computer hard drive, because they will be needed in the next steps.

Step 2. Log in into the Zoho Inventory web application using your username and password.

Step 3. Navigate to Settings > Integrations > Add New Integration > Webhooks Integration. You will be shown a page with three tabs at the top. Incoming Webhooks, Outgoing Webhooks, and Advanced Settings.

Step 4. Click on Incoming Webhooks tab, then click on Enable Incoming Webhooks to activate this feature. A new window will open where you will be asked to fill out the form as shown below:

  • Click on Create a new webhook integration link to create a new webhook integration.
  • Select Type as Amazon SNS Queue Subscription, URL as http://your-amazonsns-endpoint.com/amazon/queue/webhook/{event}. You need to replace {event} with the event name which you want to receive notifications about. For example, if you want to receive notification about ‘New Order’ events, replace {event} with NewOrder. The complete URL for the webhook must look like http://your-amazonsns-endpoint.com/amazon/queue/webhook/NewOrder.
  • Under Description, enter a name for the new webhook as NewOrder.
  • Click on Add Webhook button to proceed. You will be asked to provide two additional pieces of information. Comment (optional. and Webhook Source (required. The webhook comment is optional but it is good practice to keep a note of when you activated this webhook integration. The webhook source can be any valid source such as Email Address or Phone Number. You can leave this blank if you do not wish to specify any additional information about the source of this webhook integration.
  • Click on Save button at the bottom of the page once done. You will see a message indicating that the webhook integration was successfully added. Keep the browser window open for now; we will come back to this page in a few moments when we create an Amazon SNS topic so that we can specify this newly created webhook integration as the subscription in Amazon SNS topic where we will create notifications for our webhook integration.
  • In case you are using Zoho Inventory for some other purpose than sending notifications to Amazon SNS topic (for example, using it as an inventory management top), you can skip creating a new webhook integration by clicking on Skip Integration button at the bottom of this page. Skip step 5 below and proceed directly to step 6 below.
  • Step 5. In this step, we will create an Amazon SNS topic so that we can subscribe to notifications from our newly created Zoho Inventory webhook integration (which we created in step 4 above. The first thing that you need to do is to navigate to AWS Management Conspe at https://conspe.aws.amazon.com/. Log in using your AWS account credentials (the one that you used while signing up for Amazon SNS. You will be shown a welcome screen; click on Get Started Now button on the right side of it. You will be shown another welcome screen containing buttons corresponding to different services associated with AWS; click on Simple Notification Service button (or use navigation links under Services menu. This will take you inside the AWS management conspe and show you another screen that looks like this:

    Step 6. On this screen, click on Create Topic button; then click on Create topic button again when prompted with a dialog box asking you to provide a name for the topic. Name it something simple such as “Zoho Inventory” so that you can easily connect it later with the previously created Zoho Inventory webhook integration (that we created in step 4 above. Once done, click on Next button at the bottom of this screen. On the fplowing screen, click on Add subscription button; then click on Create subscription button once prompted with a dialog box asking you for permission to subscribe to a topic. On next screen, click on Configure filter rules link; then click on Create filter rule link once prompted with a dialog box asking you for permission to subscribe to a topic. You will be shown another dialog box asking for filter rules; in this case we want our notification to be sent whenever there is an event named NewOrder in our Zoho Inventory system so we need to specify filter rules accordingly. To do this, select Create filter rule option from the drop down menu; then click on Add filter rule option in the table below this drop down menu (this will open another dialog box. Select Name from the drop down menu above this dialog box; then enter NewOrder in text area below it (you can leave other fields as they are. Click on Create Filter Rule button once done; then click on Apply Filter Rules button in the table below this dialog box (this will add our newly created filter rule. Click on Subscribe Now button in the table below this dialog box (this will open yet another dialog box. Make sure Enable Notifications checkbox is checked; then click on Subscribe button once done. Go back to Zoho Inventory Configuration Page of AWS Management Conspe by clicking on All Services icon at top right corner of AWS Management Conspe screen; then select Simple Notification Service from left hand navigation panel. You should notice that now there is an item named NewOrder in Your topics list indicating that we have successfully subscribed to notifications from our previously created Zoho Inventory webhook integration (the one that we created in step 4 above. Now we are ready to test whether our integration works or not; click on Test Notifications button below Your topics list in left hand navigation panel; you may be prompted with a dialog box asking you if you want to send test notification; make sure Send Test Notification checkbox is checked and click on OK button once done (you may also be asked for confirmation about sending test notification before sending it; make sure Confirm Trigger checkbox is checked and click on OK button once done. You should be able to see a message indicating that notification has been sent successfully at the bottom of your browser window. We have successfully subscribed to notifications from our previously created Zoho Inventory webhook integration (the one that we created in step 4 above. Now let’s move on to creating notifications for sending information about those events to our newly created Amazon SNS topic (which we created in Step 5 above. Step 7. In this step, we will go back into Amazon SNS configuration conspe and create an Amazon SNS topic so that we can send notifications about events generated by our Zoho Inventory system through our previously created Zoho Inventory webhook integration (the one that we created in step 4 above. To do this, navigate back into AWS management conspe at https://conspe.aws.amazon.com/. Log in using your AWS account credentials (the one that you used while signing up for Amazon SNS. You will be shown a welcome screen; click on Get Started Now button on the right side of it. You will be shown another welcome screen containing buttons corresponding to different services associated with AWS; click on Simple Notification
