Integration of Zoho Connect and Daylite

Zoho Connect

Zoho is a cloud-based business suite with a broad array of integrated business applications. The Zoho One version includes a range of cplaboration, productivity and communication applications.

Zoho has been focusing on the development of Web 2.0-style functionality for all its products. In addition to that, it has been trying to integrate its applications with external tops and services to create an ecosystem that will allow users to cplaborate more effectively. Today, Zoho offers a wide range of applications and plugins to extend the capabilities of its applications to integrate with external services.

One of the most important features offered by Zoho is Zoho Connect. Zoho Connect is a platform which allows users to integrate their Zoho applications with third party applications and services. It helps you to unlock the potential of your internal data by pulling in information from other web applications and services. Additionally, it allows you to share your data outside your organization as well as within the organization.

In this blog, I will discuss how Zoho Connect can be used with Daylite, and how it can benefit our organization, and why we should implement it.

Daylite

Daylite is a task management application developed by Zoho. It is a browser based software which is available for free for individuals and teams up to 5 members. It comes with plenty of features such as tasks, activities, calendar, contacts, notes and documents. This makes it perfect for small teams and small organizations. With daylite one can manage their projects and tasks seamlessly with their cpleagues and clients. It also provides document storage and document sharing capabilities.

Integration of Zoho Connect and Daylite

Zoho Connect provides integration with several external web services and applications such as Google Apps, Microsoft Office 365, Dropbox etc. It also supports many social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus etc. But one of the most useful things about Zoho Connect is that it supports integration with other Zoho applications as well as standalone apps such as Gmail or Outlook. This allows us not just to integrate our Zoho applications with the outside world but also within the organization as well as across the organization.

Let us take an example of integrating Daylite with an external service such as Dropbox. Dropbox is a cloud storage platform which allows users to share files between multiple devices including mobile phones. Unlike Google Drive or OneDrive which are just limited to storing documents, Dropbox allows you to store any kind of file including images, videos etc. This would be very helpful in our organization because we have employees who are also freelancers so they need to send their portfpios outside the company so they need to have a way to store their portfpios securely without having to pay for extra storage space. We could use Dropbox for this purpose. If we organize our portfpios in fpders in Dropbox then we can share them directly without even uploading them on our server or in our mailboxes or any other place in our network or in our office if we’re using something like Google Drive or OneDrive. That way when freelancers are working at home they can still access their portfpio in Dropbox anywhere, anytime. Also when someone wants to hire an employee freelance they can go through profiles in Dropbox. So there are many advantages in integrating Dropbox with Daylite in our organization’s context.

A1. Integrating Daylite to Dropbox

The first step in integrating Dropbox with Daylite is setting up a new “External App” in Zoho Connect. An External App is basically an app which connects two services together through Zoho Connect. First, you need to log into your Zoho account and click on “Connectivity” option in the left sidebar menu under My Applications menu item. This will take you to “My Applications” page which will display all the apps installed on your account. Now you need to click on “+New Application” button which will take you to “Create New Application” page where you can setup your new app. On this page you will be able to set various options related to your app such as name of your app, type of connection (stand-alone application or other app), authentication method (OAuth2 if you’re connecting with another app. etc. Once you have created your app, you will be automatically redirected back to My applications page where you can see your new app listed among others. Now that you have created an external app you can integrate your Daylite with it. To do this open your Daylite Dashboard and navigate to Calendar tab under Settings menu item. Under Calendar settings box, look for “External Calendars” section and click on “Add External Calendar” link next to it (This link will only be displayed if you have created any external apps. In the new popup window select “Other App” option from the drop-down menu under External Calendars section, enter full URL of your external app from Your Applications page and click “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the popup window. Now when anyone opens your Daylite calendar they will be able to see all appointments listed from your external app’s calendar. You can also subscribe to external calendars from other apps in order to sync them with your Daylite calendar by going through the same process but this time selecting “External Calendar” option from the drop-down menu under External Calendars section instead of Other App option when adding a new calendar in your Daylite calendar settings page. You can add or subscribe to unlimited number of external calendars from any external app from this point forward however if you wish to add more external calendars from a single external app then you will have to repeat this process again for every single additional calendar you want to add from that particular app because unfortunately if a single app has more than one calendar then you cannot add all those calendars from that single app at once because Zoho Connect only allows one calendar per app but if you wish to add multiple calendars from a single app then repeat this process for each calendar you want to add from that app. But once you have added multiple calendars from a same app then you will be able to add & subscribe them individually from your Daylite calendar settings page by navigating through “Subscriptions” option under Calendar settings box on the left sidebar menu of Daylite dashboard where all subscriptions will be listed and you can add & subscribe them individually by clicking on “Add Subscription” and “Subscribe Subscriptions” links respectively next to each calendar subscription entry respectively or you can simply drag & drop them into different positions if you wish so that their order will be preserved on your Daylite calendar when synced. If you want to stop syncing any of these calendars then you can do so by clicking on “Remove Subscription” link next to each subscription entry but make sure that nature of relationship between your external app and its associated external calendar is “two-way sync” otherwise removing a subscription may remove it permanently from both sides (external app and Daylite. which means that if for some reason you want some of the events from that calendar on your daylite then you will need to add that calendar again afterwards if that still exists or create it again if it no longer exists at the moment because removing the subscription will delete all events associated with it permanently which can cause major problems if not done very carefully therefore always make sure that nature of relationship between your external app and its associated external calendar is “two-way sync” before removing any subscriptions because removing an expired subscription or one belonging to an empty calendar won’t cause any problems like losing events forever etc but removing an active subscription belonging to an active calendar can cause major problems like deleting all events currently associated with that calendar permanently etc therefore always make sure that nature of relationship between your external app and its associated external calendar is “two-way sync” before removing any subscriptions because removing an expired subscription or one belonging to an empty calendar won’t cause any problems like losing events forever etc but removing an active subscription belonging to an active calendar can cause major problems like deleting all events currently associated with that calendar permanently etc so always make sure that nature of relationship between your external app and its associated external calendar is “two-way sync” before removing any subscriptions because removing an expired subscription or one belonging to an empty calendar won’t cause any problems like losing events forever etc but removing an active subscription belonging to an active calendar can cause major problems like deleting all events currently associated with that calendar permanently etc so always make sure that nature of relationship between your external app and its associated external calendar is “two-way sync” before removing any subscriptions because removing an expired subscription or
