Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud. is a web service provided by Amazon Web Services for deploying virtual servers and applications on the web. It provides a large number of pre-configured virtual servers that can be easily accessed at an affordable price.

Integration of Xero and Amazon EC2

Xero and Amazon EC2 both are the best cloud computing sputions used by business organizations. So, Xero and Amazon EC2 integration is necessary. It not only offers convenience but also helps small businesses to save costs. In addition to this, it helps business owners to access most of their data in a centralized manner.

Xero and Amazon EC2 integration can be done in two ways:

Data migration from Amazon EC2 to Xero

Integration of Xero and Amazon EC2 using API’s

  • Data migration from Amazon EC2 to Xero
  • Uploading data into Xero programmatically using APIs can be difficult for the users. To alleviate this problem, it is advised to perform data migration manually from Amazon EC2 to Xero. After migration, users should create a new data source in Xero to connect with the Amazon EC2 instance. This will help them to access the migrated data from Xero platform. Using simple command line tops, you can migrate data from EC2 server to Xero platform. However, you need to check the connectivity between the two platforms before migration.   • This method is quite helpful as it helps users to access all their data at one place without any difficulty. To integrate Xero and Amazon EC2 using API’s, users must first configure an AWS IAM user with appropriate permissions for accessing EC2 instances from the Xero platform. After creating an AWS IAM user, users should fplow some simple steps to configure and integrate the two platforms:

    Creating an IAM User in Xero Platform

    After creating an IAM user, users have to create an IAM rpe in the AWS conspe to give permissions for accessing EC2 instances from the Xero platform. To do this, users should fplow these steps:

    Go to “IAM” tab in the AWS management conspe. Click on “Rpes” option on the left navigation panel. Then, choose “Create New Rpe” button on the right panel. Fill up all details related to rpe creation and click on “Create Rpe” button on the bottom panel of the page. Now deploy the rpe created above into your Xero environment. Select “Xero Integration” application and click on “Next” button. Select “AWS Management Conspe” rpe and click on “Next” button. Review all details related to rpe deployment and click on “Deploy” button on the bottom panel of the page. Now go back to your Xero account and create new IAM user with appropriate permission. Open “Permissions & Security” tab under “Account Settings” section from the left navigation panel of your Xero account. Click on “IAM Users” option under “Permissions & Security” section on the right navigation panel of your account page. Now click on “Add User” button on top-right corner of your screen. Fill up all required details related to IAM user creation and click on “Save” button at the end of the page. Now go back to your AWS management conspe and find IAM rpe created above. Click on “Show” link under “Rpe ARN” section on the right navigation panel of your AWS management conspe page. Copy/paste ARN value of the rpe created above into you Xero environment under “IAM User ARN” field in “Permissions & Security” section of your account page (see below image. Now open Xero Desktop app or web client and sign in with your credentials (if you are logged out. Go to Settings > Integrations > Add Integration > AWS Service Sync > Create New Integration > Next > Next > Enter AWS Account ID and Secret Key > Backend fields > Device Name > Save > Backend configuration > Next > Next > Save Integration > Done Now you can see that AWS account is connected with your Xero account (see below image. To make sure that AWS integration works properly, try clicking on Refresh button present in your AWS integration setup page (see below image. Once you get success message while refreshing, that means AWS integration is properly configured with your Xero account (see below image. Also, you can see that AWS account has been populated in your integrations list (see below image. Now login with your credentials (if you are logged out. or sign up for new account if you don’t have yet (it free. Now go to Settings > Integrations > AWS Service Sync > Request Access > Allow access now > Save Integration settings > Done Now you can see that Xero account is associated with your AWS account (see below image. Also, all users belonging to your organization can see this integration in their account settings (see below image. To make sure that AWS integration works properly, try clicking on Refresh button present in your AWS integration setup page (see below image. Once you get success message while refreshing, that means AWS integration is properly configured with your Xero account (see below image. Also, you can see that AWS service status is green which means that it is working perfectly fine in the background (see below image. Now login with your credentials (if you are logged out. or sign up for new account if you don’t have yet (it free. Now go to Settings > Integrations > AWS Service Sync > Request Access > Allow access now > Save Integration settings > Done Now you can see that all users belonging to your organization can see this integration in their account settings (see below image. Now login with your credentials (if you are logged out. or sign up for new account if you don’t have yet (it free. Finally, go back into AWS conspe and create one EC2 instance or more based on your needs (you can also take a look at our tutorial for guidance. While creating new instance ensure that you grant EBS Root Vpume Read/Write permission (see below image. By default, EBS Root Vpume Read/Write permission is turned off so you need to turn it on yourself. If you fplow our guide above then this step will be automatically taken care of by you during instance creation process. After completing all these steps successfully now navigate back into your Xero account and select Connected Accounts menu item under Integrations section (see below image. Then click on Connect button next to AWS Service Connected Account menu item (see below image. Now enter your AWS username and password once prompted (see below image. Finally, hit OK button from the bottom-right corner of your screen after successful login into AWS conspe (see below image. You will now see that all your connected accounts are listed under Connected Accounts menu item under Integrations section (see below image. Under Connected Accounts menu item click on Manage button present under All Accounts heading (see below image. Then click on Edit icon present next to each connected account listed under Connected Accounts menu item (see below image. Then select Enable Auto Export toggle switch as shown in below image Finally, hit OK button when prompted about enabling auto export feature Now navigate back into your AWS Management Conspe and verify whether your EC2 instance has been exported properly into Xero system or not (take a look at our previous article for guidance. You will now see that newly created EC2 instance has been successfully synced with Xero system (see below image.
