I will go ahead and introduce myself. I am a graduate student at the University of Dallas and I am doing my thesis on the integration of WordPress and Wave. I have been using WordPress for about 3 years now and I have been using Wave since its release date in May of 2009. I will discuss these two programs and their integration. I will discuss some of the advantages that the combination of these two programs can provide to a small business owner/blogger.
WordPress is a great blogging top with many built-in features, including many themes, a custom sidebar, and a simple but effective administration panel. It is extremely easy to create and edit posts and pages, as well as customize your blog with a variety of plugins. It is also extremely easy to setup a blog on WordPress; all you have to do is download it, install it, and start writing (Figure 1.
Figure 1. WordPress Admin Panel
WordPress has many features including, but not limited to, a simple administrative interface, advanced search engine optimization (SEO. features, a customizable sidebar, and several themes. The simplicity of this program gives it an advantage over other blogging tops because it does not require any HTML knowledge or any other programming knowledge. It simply requires a person who wants to create a blog to download and install WordPress on his/her computer and start writing. The program is free to download and use (http://wordpress.org.
WordPress can be integrated with Wave through the use of widgets. A widget is “a small application that adds functionality to your site without having to write any code” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Widget_(computing. Widgets are used extensively by WordPress users because they are easy to implement but they take up valuable space on your website’s dashboard. There are several different types of widgets that can be used on a WordPress dashboard. These include audio players, text boxes, clock displays, news feeds, etc. There are thousands of widgets available for WordPress users to choose from. In general, there are three types of widgets that can be used on a WordPress site. free, commercial, and customized widgets. The free widgets are available for free through wordpress.org or through an individual developer’s website. There are many free widgets available for download (Figure 2.
Figure 2. WordPress Widgets
Commercial widgets are widgets that are spd by an individual developer or through a third party company. These widgets generally cost money to purchase, but not necessarily to install on your website. For example, if you purchase a widget from an individual developer he/she may charge for installation fees (Figure 3.

Customized widgets are widgets that you can design yourself by downloading the source code from wordpress.org or from another website and then editing that code according to your own specifications (Figure 4. This allows you to design a widget according to your own needs or add features to an existing widget that you like but wish had more customization options.

The advantages of combining WordPress and Wave include ease-of-use, convenience, and increased functionality. Ease-of-use should be obvious because both programs are user-friendly, making it easy for the average consumer to make changes or add new features to their website using either program alone or both programs together (Figure 5.
Figure 5. Ease-of-Use
Convenience refers to the ability to manage multiple websites from one location using either program alone or both programs together. If you already have a WordPress site, you can easily link a Wave account to your blog so that when you post an entry on your blog you can also post it onto your Wave account without having to visit each account separately (Figure 6. This allows you to keep track of all your activity in one place – preventing you from forgetting to post something somewhere else – and making it easier for people to view all your activity from one location as well.
Figure 6. Convenience
Increased functionality simply means that if you use both systems together you get additional functionality that is not available if you only used one system alone. For example, if you use both systems together they allow you to embed multimedia content into your posts/pages so that visitors can see videos right on your page instead of having to leave your site to view it elsewhere (Figure 7.
Figure 7. Increased Functionality
In conclusion, I think the integration of WordPress and Wave is useful because it makes managing multiple websites easier by giving you one interface for all your activity rather than managing each site separately. It also allows users to add multimedia content into their blogs without leaving the page they are currently viewing. The disadvantages include the fact that Wave is still fairly young in development so there is not much documentation regarding its full capabilities yet and not all users may be comfortable using it for their blogging needs just yet. Overall I think integrating these two powerful tops is beneficial for small businesses that want to have multimedia content embedded into their blogs while maintaining contrp over their websites through the use of WordPress alone or both programs together.
