Integration of WooCommerce and Mixpanel

WooCommerce?

WooCommerce is an open source eCommerce platform for WordPress that allows easy creation of online stores. It is free and can be used to sell anything, from physical products to downloadable digital products. WooCommerce currently powers over a quarter of all online stores! This is a testament to the power and ease of use of this free software.

Mixpanel?

Mixpanel is a web analytics platform designed to track actions on your website. It tracks things like page views, form completion, purchases and more. Mixpanel also has a powerful API with which you can integrate seamlessly into your website.

Integration of WooCommerce and Mixpanel

WooCommerce already comes with an integration with Google Analytics. It was created by WooThemes, a company that specializes in WordPress plugins and themes. However, there are several steps required to set up the tracking properly. The most annoying step is adding the standard GA Tracking code to your template files. Setting up Mixpanel is as easy as installing the plugin and adding a single line of code to your functions.php file!

Benefits of Integration of WooCommerce and Mixpanel

Though a basic integration like the one described above has some value, it has more value when you have data from both platforms. Here are some ways you can use data from both platforms together:

Annotate visitor activity. For example, maybe a visitor came to your site via a link on Twitter, then browsed around, watched a few videos and purchased a t-shirt. You can create a segment in Google Analytics using the Twitter Search connection and add that segment to your Mixpanel profile in order to see the full visit in Mixpanel. Use Mixpanel to track events that you don’t want to count in Google Analytics. For example, maybe you want to track whether or not visitors download PDFs of product info. You could use Mixpanel for this purpose because Google Analytics will not count those downloads as pageviews (or even visits. since the visitor didn’t actually move around the site much. Use Google Analytics segments as filters in Mixpanel. For example, if you wanted to see how many new visitors were coming to your site each day, you could set up a segment for “New Visits” in Google Analytics, then add that segment as a filter in Mixpanel. Then you would be able to see things like how many visitors came back on day 2, day 3 etc. Use Mixpanel events as triggers for Google Analytics goals. For example, if you wanted to see what percentage of people who visited your site also downloaded a report, you could track that as an event in Mixpanel and then set up a goal in Google Analytics for anyone who downloaded the report based on that event. Use filters in Google Analytics as segments in Mixpanel. For example, you could set up a segment in Google Analytics using the Advanced Segmentation top called “Visited Products” and then add that segment as a filter in Mixpanel. This way you can see the exact actions taken by visitors who viewed specific products on your site (which you might not be able to see if you only have one profile. Set up Mixpanel alerts so that certain events trigger emails to an administrator or team member. For example, you could set up an alert for when someone creates a new account and another alert for when someone makes an order. This could help you stay on top of customer care issues quickly because you would receive an email notification every time someone creates an account or makes an order so you know right away if something is going wrong.

There are many other benefits of integrating WooCommerce and Mixpanel together besides those mentioned above. I hope this guide has been useful and that you will consider integrating these two great tops together! Please let me know if you have any questions or comments below 🙂
