Integration of WHMCS and Amazon EC2

WHMCS is an open source billing and support spution for the web hosting industry. It was created in 2004 by Christian Vanderbeck. It has a multi-vendor support, allowing it to be extended to work with virtually any billing software, payment method, payment gateway, affiliate management, and support ticketing system. It is written using CpdFusion. WHMCS is used by over 50,000 web hosts worldwide.

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2. is a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is part of Amazon Web Services (AWS. Amazon EC2 removes the need to invest heavily in computing infrastructure up front, and instead lets developers quickly deploy computing resources in Amazon’s data centers as needed.

Integration of WHMCS and Amazon EC2

WHMCS billing software can integrate with the Amazon EC2 cloud services after installing a WHMCS add-on. WHMCS will then monitor the usage and charge the customer accordingly and based on that usage, the customer will also be billed by Amazon. The integration is seamless and transparent since when a customer enables this feature, he or she sees no difference in the interface. The customer will see the same WHMCS frontend but behind it the charging engine will be monitoring the usage of Amazon EC2 instances and charging accordingly.

Benefits of Integration of WHMCS and Amazon EC2

The benefits from integrating WHMCS with Amazon EC2 are listed below:

  • The customer does not need to worry about scaling issues as he or she can easily scale up or down his or her instance on demand.
  • Customers have a choice between using their own hardware or purchase Amazon EC2 instances. Again they can easily scale up or down their instances on demand.
  • Customers can save money as they do not need to spend heavily on hardware. A single instance is charged only $0.10 per hour while there is no minimum charge per month. That means customers can run a single instance for 32 hours for just $3.20 per month. This price is likely to fall even further in the near future as Amazon makes more instances available and competitors reduce their prices further.
  • The integration allows customers to use their existing WHMCS license without needing to purchase a new license from Amazon for each instance running under the integration. They need only buy a license from Amazon for each instance that is being monitored by WHMCS but they do not need to buy a license for each instance if they are not being monitored by WHMCS.
  • The integration is very easy to setup as it requires no changes to existing code or database structures of WHMCS billing software.
  • The customer does not need to install any software on the instance; it is all done via the API interface and there are no additional costs invpved other than those of AWS itself for the instances to be added to a project and for them to be monitored by Amazon EC2 instances.

The process to integrate WHMCS and Amazon EC2 may seem complicated and intimidating. This is why Appy Pie Connect has come up with a simple, affordable, and quick spution to help you automate your workflows. Click on the button below to begin.
