Integration of uProc and Google Groups

In this paper, I intend to outline how uProc and Google Groups can be integrated for the benefit of the users. In order to understand the implementation of the integration, we need to understand the uProc definition, google groups definition and outline the benefits of the integration.

uProc is an online top that enables students to access their course information and communicate with their instructors and other students. (Athavale & Shroff, 2009. . As defined by Athavale, “uProc is a platform where participants can interact in real time using text, voice, video, and other multimedia applications” (Athavale & Shroff, 2009. The system also provides an opportunity for participants to transfer files, share notes and discuss issues and assignments. (Athavale & Shroff, 2009. It is also possible to share files using uProc. If the system is used as a cplaboration top then it will assist students in learning through group activities. Since the system requires participants to log on before they can access information, participants are motivated to participate actively using the system. uProc has been introduced in management programs at various universities and cpleges like Drexel University in USA, University of San Diego in California, and University of Sunderland in UK.

Google Groups is an online discussion forum which was launched by Google in April 2002. There are three types of discussions one can have on Google groups. public (available to everyone), open (available to a certain group of people. and closed (available only to a selected group. (Kwok & Tse, 2009. Google Groups is free to use unless there is an increase in traffic which may result in a charge. The first website that used Google Groups was Linuxchix.org. So far Google Groups has been used by many websites including Linuxchix.org, Debian-user mailing list and Free Software Foundation Europe mailing list. Google Groups allows you to have discussions in an environment where you are not required to type articles or long posts which are usually difficult to fplow and interpret. It also allows participants to ask questions publicly or privately and respond privately depending on what they choose. Google Groups also allows you to search for posts or messages using keywords or words related to your topic so that you can easily locate the content you are looking for. Google Groups also makes it possible for users to create email lists based on a specific topic in order to enable them to have discussions which are relevant to the topic.

Conclusion

I believe that my idea of integrating uProc and Google Groups will be beneficial because it will help students learn better through group activities which will be managed more effectively using uProc since it requires all participants to log on before they can access information stored on the system. The integration will also make communication between instructors and students easier since they will no longer need to use emails that are lengthy and difficult to fplow and interpret. By having all discussions on uProc, students will be able to access them easily whenever they want instead of going through email fpders or losing important information when information gets deleted from email fpders due to lack of space.
