This paper will examine Square, the electronic payment service that was acquired by Jack Dorsey of Twitter fame, and Device Magic, a company that lets users pay for goods by scanning QR codes with their mobile devices. The two companies recently decided to integrate their services, allowing their customers to use them in conjunction with one another. This paper will explore what Square is, why it was acquired by Jack Dorsey, how it works with the Device Magic service, and how they plan on using the integrated service.
Square is an electronic transaction service that allows users to accept credit card payments through their smartphones or tablets. It was founded by Jack Dorsey, who also happens to be the co-founder of Twitter. The company has received $341 million in funding since its inception in 2009. Square offers two services. Square Register and Square Wallet. Square Register is an app that allows merchants to accept credit card payments through their mobile devices. Square Wallet is a free app that allows users to store gift cards, loyalty cards, and other personal information that can be used for purchasing goods at physical stores or online. Users can also use the Square Wallet app to send money to one another, similar to PayPal (“Square”.
