Sympla is an online platform for students, teachers and lecturers created by University Cplege Roosevelt. It helps students search for courses at their universities and across the Netherlands. According to its website, Sympla’s mission is to connect universities, lecturers and students nationwide. The company was founded in 2013 by three students of the UvA.
So, how can these two companies be combined? What benefits could they both get from the integration of Spotify and Sympla? I will examine this issue in my article.
The integration of Spotify and Sympla would be beneficial for both parties. First, I will examine the benefits for Spotify.
Benefits for Spotify:
The integration of Spotify and Sympla would allow Spotify to reach out to a new group of potential users who were previously not interested in using Spotify. By creating their own profile on Sympla, students would be able to join the student community of Spotify and find new friends with similar interests. The company would also be able to keep track of its customer data in order to better understand what their customers want. For example, when the data shows that the most popular songs among students are pop hits, the company would automatically add more pop hits in order to satisfy its customers.
By integrating Spotify with Sympla, the company would be able to offer a better user experience to its customers. There would be no need for users to search for new songs through various websites. Users would only have to log into their Spotify account and find new music with ease.
According to Statistics Netherlands, in 2015 there were 8.6 million registered Spotify users. Only 4 million of these were premium users (Statistics Netherlands - Population and Socio-Economic Statistics. If all non-premium users would switch to premium accounts, each year the company would make approximately 500 million euros more in revenue. Thus, by providing a better user experience, Spotify would be able to increase the number of its paying customers.
Benefits for Sympla:
If Sympla would integrate Spotify into its platform, it would be able to earn money from this integration. Thus, students would pay a fee in order to use Sympla’s services and the company would earn money from this fee. The more students who use Sympla’s services, the more money the company will earn. This integration also allows the company to reach out to a broader audience. While before it was only available in Dutch universities, now it is available in all universities across Europe and thus it will increase the number of people who can use its services and who can pay for them. As stated above, only 4 million of 8.6 million Spotify users were premium users (Statistics Netherlands - Population and Socio-Economic Statistics. If all non-premium users signed up for premium accounts on Sympla, then that would mean that Sympla could generate about 1 billion euros per year in revenue. Thus, by providing a better user experience and by offering students a reason to sign up for premium accounts, Sympla could increase the number of its paying customers.
Spotify offers a lot of information about its users and their listening habits on its website (Spotify. By integrating Spotify with Sympla, companies like Sympla will be able to gather and analyze data about their customers and this will allow them to better understand their customers needs and wants. That being said, because this data is not readily available on Spotify’s website, companies have been forced to use third party applications in order to access this information (Shona Ghosh. This makes it much harder to gather data about specific users or groups because these applications have limited capabilities when it comes to analyzing the data they cplect. Thus, if Sympla integrates Spotify into its platform, it will have an easier time gathering accurate market research data about its customers. As a result, the company will be able to provide a better user experience and a wider range of services because it will have a better understanding of what its customers want from it.
In conclusion, the integration of Spotify and Sympla would be beneficial for both parties because it could open up a new market for both companies and it could give them a better understanding of their customers’ needs and wants. Therefore, I believe that Spotify and Sympla should consider integrating their services in order to provide a better experience for both companies’ customers.
