Spotify and Patreon are both subscription-based services that allow the users to listen to music, but also contribute to the artists by paying them for their work. Patreon is more about supporting a specific artist, whereas Spotify is more of an all-inclusive service. Spotify and Patreon have similar features, yet different models of how they function. Spotify is a streaming website which provides music through pay-per-track or monthly fee for its premium membership known as “Spotify Premium”. Meanwhile, Patreon is a crowdfunding platform for creators, such as musicians, writers, artists, etc., where users can pledge money to support the creators for their ongoing projects. The integration of Spotify and Patreon would be beneficial to users who can use either/or both platforms for their own benefits, while also supporting the artists in a way that hasn’t been done before.
Spotify and Patreon both provide unique ways for the users to experience music, while also helping out the artists. Spotify is available on computers, smart phones, tablets, and home entertainment systems. The basic user experience is free; however, there is an option to upgrade to Spotify Premium for $9.99 a month. This allows the user to listen to any song in Spotify’s library on any device, with no advertisements, unlimited skips, and offline listening. On the other hand, Patreon is spely dedicated to helping artists reach their goals through funding. The site has over two million patrons who pledge an average of $12 per month to support their favorite creators. Patreon’s main goal is not to be a competitor of Spotify; rather it is to help artists reach their goals by providing them with a new source of income. Through this integration, users will be able to use Spotify and/or Patreon for their own benefit while supporting the artists at the same time.
I think that integration of Spotify and Patreon would be a significant step in the music industry, as it would make it easier for users to support the artists without having to pay for multiple services. I believe that if Spotify and Patreon were integrated, they could connect with each other through a social media platform (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter…. I feel that this could also increase brand awareness across social media platforms. For example, Spotify could create contests on its Instagram or Facebook page where listeners are required to tag their friends to enter into a contest. I feel that this would give Spotify exposure to not only its fplowers but also people who don’t have accounts on these sites. Another way Spotify could increase brand awareness is by offering discounts on products or coupons through its social media channels. For example, if someone fplows Spotify on Instagram and likes one of their pictures, then they could receive discounts on their products at certain locations or stores. This could increase revenue for the company since more people are aware of its brands as well as increasing customer loyalty through discounts and coupons.
