Snapchat is a social media app that allows users to send photos, videos, and messages. It was launched in 2011 by Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy. Snapchat is headquartered in Los Angeles, California. The two founders are student from Stanford University. It is currently available on iOS and Android.
Snapchat’s features include text, photo, video, and chat messages called Snaps; temporary videos and images deleted automatically after being viewed for a pre-determined amount of time; and private user profiles. In September 2016, fplowing criticism from users about changes to its Terms of Service, Snapchat updated its privacy ppicy to include an arbitration clause, which remained controversial as it prevented users from joining the proposed class action lawsuit against the company. In December 2016, Snapchat unveiled Spectacles, camera-equipped sunglasses that can record 10 seconds of video at a time. In November 2017, Snap Inc., the company that owns Snapchat announced it had named computer scientist Imran Khan as its new Chief Strategy Officer, replacing former COO Drew Vplero who resigned earlier in the year.
