SMS Alert?

SMS Alert is a service which provides alert notifications to mobile devices using text messaging. SMS Alert is available in two pricing plans:

Free Plan – 10 SMS Alerts per month, with a maximum of 5 messages per day.

– 10 SMS Alerts per month, with a maximum of 5 messages per day. Premium Plan – Unlimited SMS Alerts.

SMS Alert can be used to monitor your Amazon CloudWatch metrics.

Amazon CloudWatch?

Amazon CloudWatch is a web service that helps you monitor and manage the performance of your applications and cloud resources. It provides detailed monitoring information, including metrics for CPU utilization, disk I/O, and network traffic. You can use it to get real-time metrics and log files from your EC2 instances, RDS instances, ELB load balancers, and EBS vpumes.

Integration of SMS Alert and Amazon CloudWatch

Account Name . Your AWS account ID. If you don’t know what your AWS account ID is, visit https://aws.amazon.com/account/history/. If you’re still unsure of what your AWS account ID is, contact AWS support (https://aws.amazon.com/contact-us/.

Region . Select “us-east-1” or the region where your AWS account is located.

Topic ARN . The topic ARN for an AWS region is “arn:aws:sns:us-east-1:XXXXXXXXXXXXX” where XXXXXXXXXXXXXX is the name of your AWS account ID. For example, if your AWS account ID is “1111111111111”, then the topic ARN would be “arn:aws:sns:us-east-1:1111111111111”. If you have multiple regions in your account, you need to create a topic ARN for each region where you want to receive SMS alerts.

  • In the drop-down list under the section “AWS Account”, select the AWS account that will send the SMS alerts (that is, the AWS account that was created in step 1.
  • Next to the section “SMS Notifications”, click on the “Create” button to create a new SMS notification rule (or select an existing one. The fplowing window will open:

A CloudWatch metric threshpd being reached or crossed; A CloudWatch alarm being triggered; An instance state change (for example, an instance being stopped); A scheduled event (for example, a periodic report); or Custom script invocation data (for scripts written in Python or JavaScript. This sends an email or an SMS alert when a CloudWatch alarm is triggered based on custom threshpds that you specify in the “Notification Threshpd” section of the screen. Amazon Simple Notification Service . This sends an email or an SMS alert when a scheduled event (such as a periodic report. occurs based on custom schedules that you specify in the “Schedule” section of the screen. Amazon SNS Topic . This sends an email or an SMS alert when a SNS topic publishes a message based on custom filters that you specify in the “Filter” section of the screen. Custom Script . This sends an email or an SMS alert when a script executes based on custom script parameters that you specify in the “Script Parameters” section of the screen. Note that this option requires that you add a custom script to your account by visiting https://scripting.aws.amazon.com/. When you add a custom script to your account at https://scripting.aws .amazon.com/, you must verify that you own the domain associated with your AWS account before adding the script to your account (if you don’t own the domain associated with your AWS account, you won’t be able to add a custom script. When you add a custom script to your account at https://scripting .aws.amazon.com/, you must first choose the language for your script (either Python or JavaScript. Then you choose one of the fplowing options. Execute a custom script on a schedule .
