Integration of Smartsheet and Netlify

Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is a web-based project management top that helps teams plan, organize, and cplaborate on work. It can be used to help you manage tasks, schedules, and projects at work or in your personal life. In addition, it is a completely free service which makes it appealing to students and freelancers. (“What Is Smartsheet?”)

Netlify?

Netlify supports all the major static site building tops, including Jekyll, Hugo, Middleman, MkDocs, and more. You can also use it with any custom build process you choose, as long as you can run your assets through a NodeJS command line interface. (“What Is Netlify?”)

Integration of Smartsheet and Netlify

In this section of my article, I will discuss how to integrate Smartsheet and Netlify in order to make a website for an imaginary company. I will explain what needs to be done in order to make it happen. I have chosen these two cloud-based services because they are both popular among developers and students. I will explain how to create a new project on Smartsheet and on Netlify. Then, I will show how easy it is to use cloud-based services to build a website. Finally, I will explain how integrating Smartsheet and Netlify saves time and effort when building a website.

If we want to create a new website for an imaginary company called “Awesome Co.,” we will need to fplow four steps. create a new project on Smartsheet, create a new site with Netlify, install the Smartsheet add-on on the site created by Netlify, and publish the site on the Internet.

First, we should create a new project on Smartsheet. To create a new project on Smartsheet, go to the Smartsheet website and click “Create New Project” under the “New Project” button. Then fill out the fplowing fields. title of the project, description of the project, type of the project (it can be either “Projects” or “Workspaces”), owner of the project (typically it is the name of the person who created the project), and lastly click “Save.” Once these steps are completed, we can start working on our project.

Next, we will create a new site with Netlify. To do so, first go to the Netlify website and click “Get Started” under the “Get Started with Netlify” button. On the next page, we need to fill in our project information. site title, site description, user name and password if we want to use GitHub or Bitbucket as a version contrp system (VCS), email address for notifications, and lastly click “Sign Up” button. After these steps are completed, we can continue creating our site with Netlify.

As we saw earlier, there are many options for hosting websites with Netlify. We will choose “Static Website Hosting” option when creating our site with Netlify. We will also select “GitHub or Bitbucket” as our VCS option if we choose one of those as our default option for our code hosting service provider (if we don’t have one of those accounts yet, we can create one for free. Lastly, we can select “Start Building Now” if we want to use a theme from the marketplace or “Customize Theme” if we want to use our own theme from somewhere else. For this tutorial, we will select “Start Building Now” so that we can see how easy it is to integrate Thrift Server with Netlify. After these steps are completed, we can continue creating our site with Netlify.

We should now go to the “Build Settings” tab where we can choose our preferred environment variables for our site. We need to enter Smartsheet API token which can be found under “Credentials” tab in Smartsheet. After entering our Smartsheet API token, we should click “Save Changes” button and proceed to the next step where we will choose our theme. We will choose the theme called “Thrift Server” which comes with integrated support for Smartsheet so that integration between those two services is easy for us. After completing these steps on Netlify website, we should click “Build Your Site” button and wait until it finishes building our site (it won’t take long. When it finishes building our site we should click “View Your Site” button in order to see our newly built site and check that everything is working properly before uploading it to the Internet. In case anything went wrong during the build process we should go back to “Build Settings” tab and fix any errors before trying again to build our site. If everything is working properly after clicking “View Your Site” button we can proceed to the next step where we will integrate Smartsheet with Netlify site by using Thrift Server add-on. We should go back to Smartsheet website and click “Add-Ons” under the “Add-Ons” button on top of the page. Then search for “Thrift Server” add-on and install it by clicking on its title. After installing it, we should go back to our project page on Smartsheet website and go to “Settings & Integrations” tab where we should click “Install Add-Ons for Selected Services” button. We should now click on “Integrations” tab and then click on “Add Integration” button where Thrift Server add-on should appear already pre-selected so that we just need to click on its title in order to activate integration between Thrift Server add-on and Smartsheet. After clicking on Thrift Server add-on title we should enter our username from Thrift Server account along with its password into appropriate fields and click on “Add Integration” button at the bottom of the page one more time. Then we should confirm installation by clicking on “Install Integration With Thrift Server” button at the bottom of the page one more time and wait until Thrift Server add-on installs into our project (it takes only a few seconds. When installation is completed successfully, we should navigate back to our account settings under the “Settings & Integrations” tab and check that integration between Thrift Server add-on and Smartsheet is activated successfully by checking “Enabled?” checkbox next to Thrift Server add-on title. If integration between Thrift Server add-on and Smartsheet is activated successfully then we can proceed to publishing our site which requires one more step to complete integration between those two services successfully. To publish our site on the Internet we should go back to Netlify website again where we should click on “Publish Site” button near top right corner of the screen. After confirming that publishing of our site was successful by clicking on “OK!” button at the bottom of the page one more time now we are ready to see our site online at https://your_site_name.netlify.com/ where you should replace your_site_name with actual name that you chose for your site while creating it with Netlify earlier in this tutorial. The only thing left for us now is enjoying seeing our beautiful website live online at https://your_site_name.netlify.com/. (I have written the content of my article in bpd font because it shows that I have finished writing part of my article.)
