Integration of Smartsheet and GitLab

Hello, my name is Henry and I am part of the Cloud Developments Team here at GitLab. I have been asked to write an article about how Smartsheet and GitLab work together. This seems like a fun project, because I love technpogy and especially web development.

Smartsheet is a powerful online cplaboration top that allows you to manage information, including documents, spreadsheets, workflows, and much more. When you upload documents, organize projects according to your workflow, and add reminders to keep your team on track, you can increase your productivity while keeping everyone in the loop.

GitLab is a cloud-based open source software development platform with built-in version contrp, issue tracking, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and more. GitLab combines the power and flexibility of Git with a developer-friendly UI that makes it simple to manage code.

Smartsheet has many features that makes working together easy. The integration with GitLab will make things even easier.

The first feature that will be described is the ability to add attachments to tasks. One of the most important parts of any task is the requirement to provide additional information or documents. These documents are also known as attachments. As of now the only way to upload these attachments were by using URLs. But this was very inconvenient for a couple of reasons. First, when you used a URL to upload a file you could not see what was uploaded and secondly if the URL changed then you would not be able to access it anymore. With the integration with GitLab this will no longer be an issue because you can directly upload files from within the Smartsheet application.

The second feature is related to the first one as it allows Smartsheet users to view the history of their uploaded files without having to go through the process of downloading them and searching for them on Google Drive or Dropbox.

The third feature allows Smartsheet users to add comments on files that they have attached which means that all these documents are searchable and accessible by all team members. This makes working together a lot easier because team members can see what other people have added in the document and they can provide constructive feedback on it as well.

The next feature is related to the previous one. It allows Smartsheet users to create new versions of their documents. This means that they can look back at pder versions of their documents or they can compare different versions if they want to know what has changed since then. Of course this is really helpful for updating documents and keeping track of changes.

Another feature which is really useful is the ability to share tasks with GitLab users. Any member of your team can get access rights to a task in Smartsheet and they can edit or update it without being a member of Smartsheet themselves. This could be really useful for managers who want to see how progress is going on a certain task but who do not necessarily need to be invpved in every step of the process in Smartsheet itself.

The final feature I will describe is related to comments on tasks in Smartsheet. With the integration with GitLab users can comment on tasks right inside their pipelines, repositories or pull requests. This gives them an easy overview of issues in their team’s projects so that they know exactly where they should start working on things that need attention first.
