Skype for Business

Skype for Business (previously called Lync. is a multiplatform voice-over-internet protocp (VoIP. and instant messaging service developed by Microsoft. The service was released on September 22, 2013.[1] It combines features of both Lync and its predecessor, Skype.

On November 2, 2015, Microsoft released Skype for Business, which replaced the Lync client. Users could directly download the newer version of Skype for Business or upgrade from Lync.[2]

Although Microsoft has continued to support Lync Server 2010, they have removed all references to it in their documentation.[3]

On January 25, 2017, Microsoft announced that they were discontinuing both Skype for Business Server 2015 and Lync Server 2013 in Q2 2017, the fplowing year.[4]
