Skype for Business is a cloud-based application that runs on Microsoft’s Cloud infrastructure. It was launched in July 2015 and replaced the popular Lync product. Its main features include video calls, instant messaging, public and private chat, voice calls, and a shared whiteboard.
It has three components. the Skype for Business Online Web App, Skype for Business Desktop App, and Skype for Business Phone App. The web app is used from the web browser to access meetings. The desktop app is used to conduct audio/video calls and meetings. The phone app is used to make audio calls from a desktop or laptop.
OneDrive is a cloud storage service where users can store documents, pictures, videos, and other files in a cloud. OneDrive also allows users to share these files with other people without having to use email attachments.
OneDrive has a free version and a paid version called OneDrive for Business. In the paid version, you get 1 TB of space instead of just 15 GB. In addition, you can share files with other users in your organization who also have OneDrive for Business accounts.
In the latest update of Skype for Business, released in September 2016, there is now full integration with OneDrive. Users can link their businesses OneDrive account to their business Skype account and can upload and share files using these two applications. For example, if you want to create a PowerPoint presentation for a meeting, you can create it in PowerPoint and then upload it to your OneDrive account. Then when you start your meeting, you can use Skype for Business to open the document and share it with everyone in your meeting.
Users will benefit from this integration because they can do more work online without having to transfer files via email or USB drive anymore. For instance, imagine you created a PowerPoint presentation in PowerPoint and saved it as a file in your OneDrive account. You then used Skype for Business to conduct a meeting with ten people from different parts of the world. These ten people could all access the same PowerPoint file in real time without having to send copies through email or USB drives. This will save time and money!
