  • Skype for Business is an online communication service that allows users to communicate with other people over the Internet. It is available as both a cloud-based service and as software that can be installed on a local computer. It was initially developed by Microsoft as a successor to its Lync communication platform, which was launched in 2010. The first version of Skype for Business was released in July 2015, and it was also rebranded as Microsoft Teams in early 2017.

    Skype for Business is part of Office 365, which is a web-based suite of productivity applications provided by Microsoft. It includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access, Publisher, Visio, Skype for Business, and Yammer. Subscriptions are available either through traditional one-off payments or through monthly subscriptions that are paid for on a recurring basis.
