Skype for Business?

Skype for Business is a business-oriented instant messaging and VoIP application that uses the same backend as Skype. It was designed by Microsoft to make it easier for businesses to communicate with customers and each other through instant messaging, voice calls, video conferencing, and online meetings. It was released to manufacturing on August 11, 2015.

Microsoft also released Skype for Business Online, a cloud service included with Office 365 subscriptions. With Skype for Business Online, users can access Skype for Business features from any supported web browser, including mobile phones and tablets. Users are also able to share content through OneDrive or SharePoint. The service offers an enterprise voice spution that enables organizations to deploy the service across multiple locations globally.

Microsoft has added support for Skype for Business Server to its Lync Server 2013. The new server supports both Skype for Business Server and Skype for Business Online. Microsoft also plans to release a new mobile client for users who are part of an organization using Skype for Business Server or Skype for Business Online. The mobile client will be available later in 2015.

Integration between Skype for Business and Knack

On October 1st 2017 Microsoft brought together their best messaging and communications apps into one cloud service. Microsoft Teams. With Teams, users get a single place to message cpleagues, organize their chats by using channels and groups, hpd meetings using built-in video conferencing and screen sharing capabilities, and conduct audio calls using voice quality that’s virtually indistinguishable from an in-person conversation. With Microsoft Teams users get all of this plus the power of the Office 365 productivity suite that includes SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Exchange Online, Outlook email and calendar. All this functionality is seamlessly integrated into the Teams app experience.

How does this integration work? How do Teams and Skype connect? From within Teams you’ll be able to launch a chat session with anyone in your company using Skype or even someone outside your organization by using Skype for Business Online. You’ll be able to create ad-hoc Teams meetings via Skype for Business Online meeting rooms or integrate your existing Skype for Business infrastructure with Teams to bring the full power of the unified communications experience to your organization. It’s easy to switch from Teams to Skype or vice versa depending on what you need to do at the time. And if you’re on a PC or Mac you can use the new Teams desktop app or use Skype for Business app on iOS and Android devices.
