Skype for Business is a proprietary voice-over-IP (VoIP. service. It is the replacement of the pder product, Lync Server, which has now been renamed to Skype for Business Server 2015.

It allows users to make audio/video calls over the Internet; however, it also provides much more features. These include instant messaging, sharing of documents and desktop, and much more.

The second article will discuss CloudTalk. CloudTalk is an application that integrates with Skype for Business. This integration allows users to have interaction with their contacts through the display of information relating to those contacts.

  • Integration of Skype for Business and CloudTalk
  • CloudTalk is an application that integrates with Skype for Business. It provides additional capabilities to Skype for Business users. Specifically, it provides information about contacts that are being contacted by users, who are being contacted by users, or who are being engaged with by users. It also allows the user to share his presence with others.

    This integration is done by using the cloudtalk.exe process. The process runs under the credentials of the user who is accessing Skype for Business. It can interact with other processes on the machine, but it does not run as a service account.

    As evidenced by Figure 1, this integration can be seen via the Skype for Business client. When a user is engaged with another user, the presence bubble will appear in the other user’s client. Similarly, when a user is engaged with another user, the presence bubble will appear in the first user’s client. This allows users to monitor interactions between their contacts, which can provide important information regarding other people’s availability.

  • Benefits of Integration of Skype for Business and CloudTalk
  • Through this integration, users receive benefits that otherwise would not be available to them. These include:

    A way to see whether a contact is available to communicate through Skype for Business. If the contact has active sessions with other contacts or if he or she has an active session with Skype for Business, then there is a good chance he or she is available to communicate through Skype for Business as well. However, if the contact does not have any active sessions with other contacts or if he or she does not have an active session with Skype for Business, then there is a good chance that he or she is not available to communicate through Skype for Business; A way to see whether a contact is actively engaged with other contacts. Through this integration, users can see whether a contact is engaged with other contacts and if it is engaged with Skype for Business; A way to see whom a contact is engaged with. Through this integration, users can see with whom a contact is engaged; An easy way to share presence. Currently, sharing of presence is limited to certain platforms—specifically Windows Phone and Windows 8 devices. With this integration of CloudTalk into Skype for Business, users have an easy way to share their presence on these platforms as well as on Mac OS X devices; A way to view all of the conversations that a user has had with a contact. Through this integration, users can see all of the conversations they have had with a contact; and A way to view what documents a contact has shared with him or her. Through this integration, users can see all of the documents they have shared with a contact.
