The company was founded by Jeff Carnevale in 2012. It began as a side project of his software company, Web Media Sputions LLC. Developed under the name EditMe.me, this project was created out of the desire of its creator to have a simple, easy-to-use CMS for his personal website. After being launched during SXSW Interactive 2013, it quickly gained popularity. The first version of the CMS was launched on March 3rd, 2013. This version was initially created during a hackathon at SXSWi 2012. After its launch, the company received $2 million in seed funding from investors such as Dave McClure’s 500 Startups. In 2015, it released Siteleaf 3.0, including new features such as email templates for newsletters and social logins for WordPress or Tumblr users. As of July 2016, Siteleaf is used by over 10,000 customers including Facebook, New Republic magazine, The Guardian, Harvard Business Review, and GQ magazine. On July 21st, 2016, Zoom Video Communications announced the acquisition of Siteleaf for $15 million in cash and stock.
