Integration of Siteleaf and Amazon EC2

The Problem

A website is a big asset to any company. A website is the front page of any business, it gives the customer an impression of what the business is about and it shows what you are able to do. A website should be the best available in your field, in your town or in your country. That’s why it sometimes takes months to release a new website.

The Spution

Siteleaf is a website building top which gives you the opportunity to build your own site within minutes. The user can choose from hundreds of templates which are already available. But Siteleaf doesn’t stop at that. If you don’t find the desired template, you can also create your own. You can upload your own images, videos, texts and even YouTube clips. Everything is possible. If you need specific functions for your website, you just have to ask Siteleaf and they will implement it for you.

Amazon EC2 is an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS. platform that offers resizable compute capacity in the cloud. Amazon EC2 lets you launch as many virtual servers as you need, without upfront costs or long-term commitments. Amazon EC2 enables you to access computing capacity in the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2. directly through the APIs provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS. Amazon EC2 eliminates the need for hardware provisioning, OS installation, configuration management, and ongoing maintenance typically associated with operating your own computing infrastructure.

Integration of Siteleaf and Amazon EC2

Currently Siteleaf offers hosting services for their users. Because there is no good IaaS provider in the Netherlands yet, Siteleaf needed a spution to host their websites with a cheaper price than currently offered by their providers. In this spution, Amazon EC2 is used as a provider of virtual servers. Amazon Web Services have been chosen because it is very flexible and easy to use. Amazon Web Services have been used before in another project of Siteleaf with great success. The load on each server can be easily scaled up or down with a few mouse clicks. By using Amazon Web Services, it is easy to use a dedicated server for each customer instead of using a shared server for multiple customers with a limited number of users. By using Amazon EC2 it is also possible to start a web server within seconds instead of waiting days or weeks to get a dedicated server from one of Siteleaf’s current providers.

Benefits of Integration of Siteleaf and Amazon EC2

In my opinion the biggest benefit from this integration is increased flexibility for Siteleaf’s customers. They can now choose whether they want a shared server or a dedicated server for themselves. It is also possible to scale up or down a server in minutes without having to wait days or weeks for a provider to make sure their server is ready for use. The fact that Amazon Web Services has been used for this integration makes me believe it is possible to scale up or down each customer’s server by demand. This could increase the response time of each server and decrease the possibility of downtime caused by lack of resources on shared servers.
