On 27 February 2013, Sina Weibo announced that it would allow users to make payments via PayPal within Weibo. Users can link their existing accounts from both services, and then will use PayPal to pay for goods on Weibo. The new service will use the same identity authentication system already used by Taobao and other Alibaba Group sites. The announcement came after Tencent's competing WeChat payment platform had already implemented a similar feature, while Renren and QQ had also integrated PayPal services into their platforms. In October 2014, Sina Weibo announced that they would start to accept credit cards as part of its payment options. As of March 2015, users can link a Visa or MasterCard credit card to their account to make online purchases.
