1.2 History of Sina Weibo
Sina Weibo was launched in August 2009 1 by SINA Corporation (NASDAQ. SINA. The company had been working on the microblogging website for a year prior to its launch. 2 In October 2011, it became one of the top ten most visited websites globally. 3 In June 2014, Sina Weibo was listed with a $46 billion valuation on the New York Stock Exchange. 4 As of December 2017 , Sina Weibo has a market capitalization of roughly $16 billion with a price per share of $60. 7 Since it was first launched, the number of active users has grown rapidly, going from about 5 million in 2010 to above 500 million by 2017. 8
