Through this technpogy, smartphone users can know where they are and share their location with their friends or other people. Some social networking sites like Facebook have introduced this function to their applications.

When we look at the introduction section, we can see that there are many ways to determine the location of the space traveler. Unfortunately, all these ways have some problems, for example:

  • Some systems need two-way communication between the navigation system and space station. This means that every time a user wants to know his/her location, he/she will need to wait until the spacecraft receives a signal from space station. This means that it will take a long time before he/she gets his/her location. In addition to that, if the spacecraft has not received any signal from space station, he/she will not get any location information from GPS.
  • GSM is not used as a main method for transferring data from space stations to Earth although it has been widely adopted around the world as a main communication method. This means that only people who have access to GSM network can use this service. Therefore, people who live far away from GSM services areas (like rural areas. cannot use this service.
  • The INMARSAT system still requires two way communication between the spacecraft and INMARSAT satellite even though it has been developed for more than 40 years ago. It means that it will take a long time before a user gets his/her location information by using this method.
  • Satellite phones always require two-way communication between the spacecraft and satellite phone since the satellite phone is located in space. Therefore, it will take a long time before a user gets his/her location information through satellite phone.
  • Loran-C is not used as a main method for transferring data from space stations to Earth although it has been developed for more than 50 years ago. Since this communication method has been replaced by other methods such as GPS, INMARSAT and GSM, it cannot be used in modern times and may cause legal issues in some countries.

On the other hand, we can see that there are several reasons why people want to get their current location information using their mobile phones or table PCs:

  • People want to share their current locations with their friends or families using social networks such as Facebook or Twitter, which can be used as an alternative method for sharing information with friends without using words.
  • People want to know where they are when they go somewhere unfamiliar. They would like to know information about map at the same time so that they can find out how they are going back home after finishing their trip.
  • People want to check what places are around them at certain times so that they can easily get directions back home if necessary when they lose their way while traveling somewhere unfamiliar.
  • People want to know where they are when they are going back home at night so that they can easily ask for help if needed if they get lost in unfamiliar places at night time while returning home.

Therefore, we can conclude that we should integrate simplesat and Facebook Groups in order to spve the problem that users need current location information but they cannot get it immediately because of several reasons mentioned above. By integrating simplesat and Facebook Groups, users can easily get their current locations without having to wait until they receive signals from space stations or satellites even when they have no access to GSM, INMARSAT or Loran-C services and even when they have no GPS applications in their mobile phones or table PCs.
