Shopify is a Canadian company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario that develops e-commerce software for online stores and retail point-of-sale systems. Shopify offers a suite of cloud-based commerce sputions including their online store builder, a hosted payment system, an online storefront with a customizable theme, a mobile app for merchants, and point-of-sale software. Shopify was founded in 2004 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake after attempting to build a snowboard business.[1] The initial version of Shopify launched at the 2006 Snow Summit trade show.[2] In October 2010, the company moved into a newly built office in downtown Ottawa.[3] In May 2013, Shopify acquired Kit CRM, the maker of a customer relationship management top.
