Wave is a free general purpose secure instant messenger and cplaboration application developed by Google which runs on the Google Wave server. Wave combines elements of email, IRC, instant messaging, wikis, social networking, and other web applications to create a single, threaded document which can be simultaneously edited by multiple users. Messages are synchronized so that they can be viewed and responded to from different Wave clients as well as from the web interface.
The first release of Wave was made available to the public on September 30, 2009, after a preview period of nearly a year. The service was discontinued on April 30, 2012, due to lack of user adoption. Users were redirected to Google Hangouts, which supported the same text, video, and voice communication features as Wave.

Wave was a live cplaboration top that allowed users to communicate via chats, comments, and shared documents. It was developed by Google, and launched publicly on September 30, 2009. It was discontinued on April 30, 2012. On January 25, 2013 Google announced the release of Google Drive, a new cloud storage service that replaced Google Docs. In May 2016 Google announced the discontinuation of Google+ along with several APIs including the API for the Google+ app for iOS and Android. The death of Wave is considered to be one of the main reasons behind the demise of Google+. Wave offered some features reminiscent of early social networks like Six Degrees, Tribe, Friendster, or even Myspace, along with features that are found in current social networks like Facebook or Twitter, such as video chat and sharing images. Wave also had text and file sharing capabilities similar to those found in Dropbox or Box. Despite its initial promise (which included coverage in Time Magazine's Top 50 Products of 2009), it failed to gain widespread adoption and was ultimately discontinued owing to a lack of user interest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Wave#Features_and_applications_offered_by_Wave
