Shopify is best known for its ease of use and the large variety of add-ons and themes available for it. Shopify is based in Ottawa, Canada. It was founded in 2004 by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake. In 2016, Shopify reported $1 billion in revenue. In March 2017, the company announced that their total number of online stores had passed 500,000.
Etsy is an online marketplace where individual sellers can sell their handmade or vintage goods, vintage furniture, artworks, and craft supplies. Etsians can also buy from each other’s stores. As of January 2017, Etsy has 31 million members who are active buyers and sellers.
Integration of Shopify and Etsy will benefit both companies. This integration will introduce a new market and enhance the existing market. This will result in more customers, which will lead to a larger revenue for both companies.
In 2017, many customers started to recommend Shopify as they had found that it was easier than Etsy to set up an e-commerce store on. Many online merchants choose Shopify for their e-commerce platforms as it provides more functionality and flexibility than eBay’s Magento or BigCommerce. Also, it is more user-friendly than these platforms. So, integrating Shopify with Etsy will expand shop owners’ opportunities to find potential customers.
Many shop owners on Etsy have already considered the possibility of moving their businesses to other platforms such as Shopify because they believe that Etsy is not easy to use and they have limited customization options. Therefore, integrating Shopify and Etsy will give shop owners more options as to how they wish to run their businesses. For example, they can choose if they want to keep their shops open on Etsy or move them to Shopify instead; this would be good as some customers like one platform over another.
Etsy does not charge any fees for creating an account or selling items on the site; however, there is a 3.5% fee per sale plus a 20 cent transaction fee for each item spd on the site. This means that if someone sells 100 products at $10 each on Etsy, Shopify will receive $1050 and Etsy will receive $105 (according to Valentina Ueslei’s article on the Bottomline. If Shopify integrates with Etsy, it would be able to earn additional income from selling items on Etsy that were previously just available on its own platform. However, it has been claimed that “there could be a lot of work invpved in making [an Etsy integration] happen” so it could be hard for Shopify to integrate with Etsy if this is true. If Shopify does manage to integrate with Etsy, Shopify will become even bigger than it already is; therefore, increasing its revenue even more.
Integration between Shopify and Etsy would enable those who sell products on both platforms to reach more customers and earn more revenue from their shops; this would benefit both companies as they would make more money from selling products through their platforms. The vendors would also benefit as they could get exposure from a larger target audience which increases their chances of making sales; this would also result in a higher overall revenue for Etsy. The consumers will benefit as they can purchase products from an increased variety of shops on one platform (Shopify.
Integration between Shopify and Etsy would benefit both companies by introducing a new market and enhancing the existing market (for shoppers. as well as increasing revenue for both companies (for shop owners. and increasing revenue for both companies (for both companies. I think integration between the two platforms could definitely happen in the future as there are many ways that this could take place; however, it is not necessary for both companies to benefit from this integration as it is possible that only one company could benefit from it while the other company may not benefit at all.
