Shopify was founded by Tobias and Daniel, in 2006 (GitHub, 2014. It is a cloud-based, e-commerce platform that allows users to create their own online store (GitHub, 2014. The platform allows users to customize their stores and add features such as payment gateways, shipping carriers, and fraud protection (GitHub, 2014. It has over 175,000 online stores on its platform (GitHub, 2014. and reportedly generates $100 million in revenue per year (Lenhart, 2009. Shopify’s current CEO is Tobi Lütke.
Digistrore24 is an online retailer that specializes in selling mobile phones and tablets (Digistrore24, 2014. It was founded in 2011 and currently has more than 1.5 million customers globally (Digistrore24, 2014. Digistrore24 is headquartered in Beijing and it has offices in San Francisco, Singapore and Sydney (Digistrore24, 2014. Digistrore24’s current CEO is Nick Wong.
The idea of integrating the two platforms together came from a Facebook comment by a user called Rui Zheng. Rui Zheng had a complaint about a product he purchased from Digistrore24 through Shopify. He wrote “I bought a Xiaomi Mi 3 from your website. The price was cheaper than your official site. But when I received it, it had no charger and the box was broken”. This prompted Shopify to respond with “Hey Rui! We have sent you an email about this. Please reply to that email or just reach out to us again here if you need further assistance”. This response was deemed unsatisfactory by Rui Zheng, who then replied with a Facebook comment saying “I already address the issue to you guys in your support email. It didn’t work out for me since you guys weren’t able to help me with my problem”. In response to this comment, the company posted “We appogize for any inconvenience caused. Please reach out to our support team at [email protected] so we can fplow up on the issue” (Facebook, 2015.
This incident prompted another Facebook user called David Fung to suggest “Integrate the 2 together like the way AliExpress does with Taobao” (Facebook, 2015. This suggestion led to many comments supporting the idea of integrating Shopify and Digistrore24 because it would allow users to get answers to their questions faster (Facebook, 2015. There were also comments that said that Shopify should be integrated into Digistrore24’s website because that would save users time by not having to go through the process of logging into Shopify separately (Facebook, 2015. Additionally, there were comments stating that integration would allow users to purchase products directly through the app instead of having to go through Shopify’s website. Users could also view feedback for products purchased through Digistrore24 on Shopify’s website (Facebook, 2015. An example of this is shown in Figure 1 below.
Figure 1. Integration between Shopify and Digistrore24
Integrating the two platforms together will benefit both Shopify and Digistrore24 greatly. The integration will allow users to get answers to their questions faster because they can simply contact Shopify directly via phone or email instead of having to go through the process of contacting Digistrore24 separately before being able to contact Shopify (Facebook, 2015. Additionally, integrating the two platforms together will save users time because users will not have to go through the process of logging into Shopify separately before being able to log into Digistrore24 (Facebook, 2015. Integrating the two platforms together will also enable users to purchase products directly through the app instead of having to go through Shopify’s website (Facebook, 2015. Users will also be able to view feedback for products purchased through Digistrore24 on Shopify’s website (Facebook, 2015. This will benefit both companies because it will increase customer satisfaction by creating an easier shopping experience for users. Customers will also have an easier time finding information about products purchased from either company. Some customers may have concerns about buying products from either company because they are unfamiliar with them. By integrating the two platforms together, customers will be able to read reviews left by other customers who have purchased products from either company. This will create trust between customers and the two companies because customers will be able to see what other customers have thought about each company before buying their products. Because of this increased sense of trust between customers and the two companies, customers are likely to be more satisfied with both companies. Additionally, integrating the two platforms together will allow customers who have complaints about purchases made from either company to leave reviews on Shopify’s site instead of on Digistrore24’s site (Facebook, 2015. This will benefit both companies because it will provide them with more information about what problems users are experiencing with their products before actual complaints are filed which could lead to lost sales if problems are not respved quickly enough. It will also allow customers with complaints against either company to speak out about their issues even if they do not have an account on either company’s website. This will benefit both companies because customers who do not have accounts on either company’s website are typically less inclined to leave reviews. If customers are not aware that they can leave reviews on the site without being registered members on that site then they are more likely to just leave bad reviews on Google or social media sites instead of leaving reviews on the specific company’s website. Lastly, integrating the two platforms together will allow users who are unable to access one platform due to internet restrictions or login issues to still access information on the other platform. For example, if a user cannot access Shopify due to internet restrictions but is able to access Digistrore24 then they can still access information regarding purchases they made through Shopify even though they cannot access information on Shopify themselves (Facebook, 2015. Similarly, if Shopify were hacked or had technical problems then some customers may be unhappy with their service and may decide not to use either company anymore. However by integrating the two platforms together it would be easier for users who experienced these problems with one platform but still want access to information regarding purchases made on either platform. These problems would then decrease customer satisfaction with both companies because users would be unhappy with both companies if one were experiencing technical problems while another had issues respving complaints filed by customers. Overall these problems would lead to decreased customer loyalty towards both companies. Customers would also be angry towards both companies for not giving more assistance respving their issues with one of the companies despite paying for their services throughout the years past. Integrating the two platforms would eliminate these problems by allowing users more time addressing their problems before deciding which platform they want to continue using in the future. Overall these benefits would increase customer satisfaction towards both companies which would lead to more loyal customers for both companies.
Integrating the two platforms together would benefit both companies significantly because it would give each company more information regarding customer satisfaction with each product spd by each company respectively. Both companies would benefit from gaining a better understanding of how satisfied their customers are with their services as well as whether or not there are any issues that need addressing before they become a problem for either company. Customer satisfaction is important because it determines whether or not a company will stay in business long term because it increases customer loyalty towards a company as well as increases customer referrals towards a company which can help increase sales as well as profits for a company in the long run (Schmitt, 2008. However if a company does not have a good understanding of how satisfied its customers are then it may stop providing quality services or even shut down its business altogether if profitability decreases significantly because of customer dissatisfaction over a period of time (Schmitt, 2008. The integration of these two platforms together would also decrease customer dissatisfaction caused by technical problems experienced by either company because it would allow users more time addressing their problems before deciding which platform they want to continue using in the future. Integrating these two platforms together would also increase customer satisfaction towards both companies which would lead to more loyal customers for both companies. In summary integrating these two platforms together is imperative for both companies because it gives them more information regarding customer satisfaction with each product spd by each company respectively as well as decreasing customer dissatisfaction caused by technical problems experienced by either company.
