  • Shopify was founded by Tobias and Daniel, in 2006 (GitHub, 2014. It is a cloud-based, e-commerce platform that allows users to create their own online store (GitHub, 2014. The platform allows users to customize their stores and add features such as payment gateways, shipping carriers, and fraud protection (GitHub, 2014. It has over 175,000 online stores on its platform (GitHub, 2014. and reportedly generates $100 million in revenue per year (Lenhart, 2009. Shopify’s current CEO is Tobi Lütke.

  • Digistrore24 is an online retailer that specializes in selling mobile phones and tablets (Digistrore24, 2014. It was founded in 2011 and currently has more than 1.5 million customers globally (Digistrore24, 2014. Digistrore24 is headquartered in Beijing and it has offices in San Francisco, Singapore and Sydney (Digistrore24, 2014. Digistrore24’s current CEO is Nick Wong.

  • Integration of Shopify and Digistrore24
  • The idea of integrating the two platforms together came from a Facebook comment by a user called Rui Zheng. Rui Zheng had a complaint about a product he purchased from Digistrore24 through Shopify. He wrote “I bought a Xiaomi Mi 3 from your website. The price was cheaper than your official site. But when I received it, it had no charger and the box was broken”. This prompted Shopify to respond with “Hey Rui! We have sent you an email about this. Please reply to that email or just reach out to us again here if you need further assistance”. This response was deemed unsatisfactory by Rui Zheng, who then replied with a Facebook comment saying “I already address the issue to you guys in your support email. It didn’t work out for me since you guys weren’t able to help me with my problem”. In response to this comment, the company posted “We appogize for any inconvenience caused. Please reach out to our support team at [email protected] so we can fplow up on the issue” (Facebook, 2015.

    This incident prompted another Facebook user called David Fung to suggest “Integrate the 2 together like the way AliExpress does with Taobao” (Facebook, 2015. This suggestion led to many comments supporting the idea of integrating Shopify and Digistrore24 because it would allow users to get answers to their questions faster (Facebook, 2015. Additionally, integrating the two platforms together will save users time because users will not have to go through the process of logging into Shopify separately before being able to log into Digistrore24 (Facebook, 2015.
