Integration of SharePoint and Mixpanel

According to Wikipedia, SharePoint is a web-based application developed by Microsoft for a wide variety of tasks. It allows users to upload documents and data, and share them with other users. Each user’s workspace is called a site.

Mixpanel is the world’s leading analytics platform. It helps companies understand their customers in order to increase revenue and retention.

Integration of SharePoint and Mixpanel

In SharePoint, there are three types of sites which are Team Site, Document Center, and Community Site. From these three types, I will choose Document Centre and Community Site as the two sites to integrate with Mixpanel. The reason I choose these two sites is because these two sites have similar functions. They both contain a lot of documents and provide easy access on multiple devices. Also, both sites allow for cplaboration, but community site has a more communication oriented design than Document Centre.

For each of those sites, I will create an external list. (an “external list” is a list stored outside the boundaries of SharePoint.. The external lists will be added to the Sites document library. For the integration between SharePoint and Mixpanel, I will use SharePoint List Web Analytics Application. This app provides a dashboard that shows a visual summary of the data in SharePoint.

The way I will create this app is by fplowing the steps given by Microsoft here.

Once I have created the app, I will need to set up the Single Sign On (SSO. account. SSO account enables me to log into any app with my Mixpanel credentials. To set up the SSO account, I need to fplow the steps given here. After completing these steps, I will now log into my SSO account by going to mixpanel.com/login in my browser, and then login with my Mixpanel credentials. Once I have logged in, it will redirect me to a page entitled “Your Apps”. This page shows all the apps I have connected to my Mixpanel account. Since I have not created any app yet, there will not be any apps shown there at first. However, after creating the app using my SharePoint account, I will be able to see the app there. In order to do that, I need to click on “connect an app” on the top right corner in my dashboard. Once I click on connect an app, a new page will be displayed where I can add the app that I have created in SharePoint. After adding the app in Mixpanel, it will automatically show all my data from SharePoint in SharePoint’s external list. However, it does not show the data in Mixpanel yet because we have not completed the integration yet. We have completed it when we click on “sync all values” button at the bottom right corner of the screen. After doing so, all the values from my external list will be synced with Mixpanel. Once I sync all the values from my external list with Mixpanel, it will show all the values in Mixpanel as well. All of that process is done without having to go into SharePoint’s site at all because it is syncing all values automatically from my external list with Mixpanel without me having to do anything manually.
