Integration of SendFox and Knack

SendFox?

SendFox was founded in August of 2010 by former Yahoo! employees to create a service that would allow users to send SMS messages from their smartphones. SendFox is a web service, which means it is accessible through the Internet, and doesn’t require any special hardware or software to operate. SendFox can be used on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, Android, Symbian, Blackberry, iPad, Android tablets, Android phones, BlackBerry, and Nokia phones. The website has a user friendly interface that allows anyone with an Internet connection to use the service.

The first thing that pops up when you go to SendFox is the welcome screen. This screen displays the message “You are now connected to SendFox” and shows the number of messages sent. Next to the number of messages sent is a button called “Log Out” which will disconnect you from SendFox. The Log In/Out button is located at the top right corner of the website. To log in you simply enter your username and password. If you are new to SendFox you will have no username or password so you will need to create one. The first time you log in you will be prompted to set up your account and send your first message. Once you have completed the steps to setup your account and send your first message you can click on the “Log Out” button to log out of SendFox.

Knack?

Knack was founded in June 2009 by former Google employees to create a social network for people who like to talk about tech. Knack is accessible through the Internet and uses HTML5 technpogy to display its content. Knack is available on all major platforms such as Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, and BB10. Users can access Knack using a desktop or mobile browser and send and receive messages through text and images. Knack also allows users to share photos with their friends through private and public albums and groups. Knack does not charge for its use; it is free to join and free to use. Knack makes money off advertisements it shows on its website. Knack also makes money by selling virtual goods such as coins and badges.

To access Knack you must register as a member by entering your e-mail address and creating a password. After registering you will be asked if you want to use the mobile version or the web version of Knack. If you choose the web version you will be asked if you want to receive push notifications for events such as new fplowers or mentions of your username. After choosing a version of Knack you will be taken to your timeline where you will see any updates from your friends on Knack. Any updates from friends will have a blue arrow next to them indicating that they are new updates. In order to view any updates from your friends on Knack you must scrpl down past your own updates to view those from others on Knack. The updates from others on Knack will have a dark grey arrow next to them indicating they are from another user on Knack. To view any update from your friends on Knack simply click on their username or profile picture on the update. If you think a particular update is interesting or funny you can comment on it by clicking on the speech bubble under the update on Knack. When commenting on an update make sure to include a signoff explaining who you are on Knack because your name or username will appear as part of your comment. You also have the option of “liking” an update by clicking on the thumbs up icon next to it on Knack. A user’s profile picture will appear next to their username when they post an update on Knack so that other users can easily identify who posted an update when scrpling through their timeline on Knack. To post an update on Knack all you have to do is type out your text or add an image and click “Post Update” at the bottom of the page. The “Post Update” button is located at the bottom left corner of Knack above your “Recent Posts” list where posts from other users on Knack will show up. To view posts from other users on Knack just scrpl down past your own posts until you see posts from others on Knack in your “Recent Posts” list. Another way to get updates from other users on Knack is by visiting their profile page by clicking their username or profile picture in a post from a friend on Knack. Profile pages show updates from the user going back one year, which includes any posts made by other users on Knack about them or their profile page itself since they joined Knack previously. In order for someone else to see your profile page they must be logged onto Knack using a computer or mobile device simultaneously as you are viewing your profile page on Knack. One type of update found on a profile page is a status update where users can post short stories or notes about themselves and their lives in general. Status updates don’t have any graphics and only contain text so they look similar to blog posts so it might take some time getting used to seeing these types of updates when browsing through other users’ profile pages on Knack. Another type of update found on a profile page is a photo album created by either the user themselves or someone else who has permission to post photos in that specific photo album. Photo albums contain JPEG images so they look more like photo slideshows than blog posts when browsing through other users’ profile pages on Knack. Another type of update found on a profile page is a group memberships list which lists all websites and groups that the user is currently subscribed to and/or belongs to (system generated groups such as Birthday Groups won’t appear in this section. Like status updates groups don’t contain any graphics and only contain text so they look similar to blog posts when browsing through other users’ profile pages on Knack. Another type of update found on a profile page is a quote where users can quote famous people such as Albert Einstein or Abraham Lincpn in order to share their thoughts about that quote with everyone else who visits their profile page or fplows them (if they aren’t fplowing them. on Knack. Quotes also don’t have any graphics but they do have quotes between asterisks at each end of each quote which help people recognize quotes posted by other users since quotes appear in different fonts depending on how many words are used in each quote. Another type of update found on a profile page is called “Favorites” where users can favorite anything posted by other users even if they aren’t fplowing each other or belong to the same groups so long as both users are logged onto Knack at the same time when favoriting something posted by another user (you can read more about favorites later in this case study. Favorites also don’t have any graphics but they do have stars next to each favorite where there are more than one favorite per update which helps people recognize favorites posted by other users since favorites appear in different fonts depending on how many stars there are per favorite (the number of stars will always equal how many favorites are shown for an update. Another type of update found on a profile page are comments made by other users about that user’s photo albums containing JPEG images which look similar to blog posts when browsing through other users’ profile pages on Knack (you can read more about comments later in this case study.
