An article about someone going on a trip to Bali:

  • Where is Bali?
  • General information about Bali
  • A few days of sightseeing in Bali
  • The last day of sightseeing in Bali
  • The most memorable moment in Bali
  • IntroductionWe would like to introduce you to a place where you can relax and have fun at the same time. It is one hour and a half from Jakarta by plane. It is Bali! Bali is one of the most beautiful islands in Indonesia. It is also the biggest island in Indonesia. You can see Bali from an airplane when you fly over it. There are many nice places to visit in Bali.
  • The first place we visited was Tanah Lot Temple. This is a Hindu temple located on a rock in the ocean. After visiting this temple, we went to visit the Tegalalang Rice Terraces. This is a traditional Balinese village that has been there for hundreds of years. The next place we visited was Kintamani Vpcano. Standing on the rim of the crater, we could see the mountain covered by clouds and smoke. The last place on our trip was Ubud, which is the cultural center of Bali. We had lunch near one of the temples. That night we attended a performance by a Balinese group at an open theater near the central market. The next morning, we went shopping at one of the markets before heading back home on the same plane that brought us here. We had a great time on our vacation!

As you have just read, we visited many interesting places on our trip to Bali. If you want to relax but still enjoy your vacation, please consider visiting this beautiful island soon!

    Sample Essays

Here are sample articles from students who received scores of 4 and 5 on the Writing section of the TOEFL iBT exam. They were written in response to an article prompt about reading books using electronic devices such as e-readers or tablets instead of traditional print books. Each article has been edited for clarity and length and has some parts highlighted to show how the student uses good organization and structure in his or her article. As you read the sample articles, pay close attention to how well these students organize their ideas and express them clearly with effective and concise sentences.

Score 4 Essay—Topic. Some people think that reading books on electronic devices should be allowed in public places such as airports and restaurants while others believe that electronic readers should not be used in public places because they cause distractions. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

    Full name ……………………………………………………… Date ………………………

This topic concerns me because I am always having trouble finding a place where I can sit down and read my favorite books without being bothered by other people or things around me. I usually bring along my Kindle (an electronic device. with me so I can read it whenever I have free time regardless of where I am. But a lot of times other people will look at me funny when they see me reading it because they are used to seeing people reading hard copies of books with actual paper pages that are filled with words that are printed on them with ink instead of the words being displayed on a screen as they are on my Kindle. Reading books electronically instead of on real print books is a very controversial issue among many people today; some people think that it should be permitted while others think that printing books is better than reading books on electronic devices such as Kindles or Nooks (another electronic device.

The main reason why some people do not like reading books electronically is that they feel it causes distractions for those around them because they feel that it makes them less social when they read their electronic devices instead of reading print books because they cannot turn to their neighbor next to them when they want to ask him or her something about what he or she is reading or if he or she doesn’t understand something that happened in the story he or she is currently reading or if he or she wants some help understanding a difficult word. But others feel that most of those reasons why people don’t like reading books on electronic devices because they are very convenient and handy especially because they don’t need electricity to use them unlike print books do so they can easily be used outside when you’re traveling or when you’re sitting somewhere waiting for someone and have nothing else to do while you wait or when you’re waiting for your flight at the airport for example; you can simply pull out your kindle and start reading away without having to worry about carrying heavy bags full of books around with you wherever you go or having to worry about finding an electrical outlet so you can plug your kindle into it to charge it up so it will have enough battery power so you can read with it until you reach your destination safely without running out of battery power half way there; another advantage to using electronic devices such as Kindles or Nooks instead of print books is that they allow you to highlight certain words or phrases in the book that interest you and then when you finish reading your book at the end of your trip home; you can simply read over those parts again and then save all those highlighted parts into one file so you can refer back to them later at any time; another advantage to using electronic devices such as Kindles or Nooks instead of print books is that they allow you to choose exactly how big or small you want your font size to be so if your eyesight isn’t very good then you can make your font size bigger so you won’t have trouble reading the words whenever you choose which book you’d like to read next; another advantage to using electronic devices such as Kindles or Nooks instead of print books is that they don’t take up much space so if you live in a small apartment then having an electronic device such as a Kindle would be perfect for you because instead of having shelves full of books standing around cluttering up your apartment; you can simply store all your favorite books onto your Kindle so it will save valuable space inside your small apartment which will give you more room to move around without bumping into stuff while walking around inside your apartment; another advantage to using electronic devices such as Kindles or Nooks instead of print books is that they are very light weight so when traveling somewhere during your summer vacation for example; instead of having a big heavy bag full of hard copies of books weighing down your shoulders while traveling somewhere; all you’ll need is a little Motorpa Xoom tablet PC (another electronic device. so you can carry all your favorite books wherever you go while traveling around different places during your vacation without having to worry about traveling somewhere far away from home only to find out later that your favorite book isn’t there anymore because someone stpe it from someplace else while you were gone; another advantage to using electronic devices such as Kindles or Nooks instead of print books is that they can hpd more than one book within them at once so if there are two or three books that you like reading then all you have to do is load them both onto your Kindle instead of carrying around individual print copies of each one separately which will save more space within your backpack or handbag so you don’t have trouble fitting everything inside without making it too crowded inside; another advantage to
