Miro is a free, open source media player created by Rob Lord and developed by the Miro Community. It is a GUI-based applet with an easy-to-use interface modeled after that of iTunes, so it is intuitive to use for people who are familiar with iTunes. It has the ability to play many different video and audio formats, including Ogg Theora/Vorbis (OGG)/MP3. Miro is also a media aggregator—it can access videos from YouTube, Hulu, and other online sources.
Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that allows its users to send and read other users’ updates. Updates are called “tweets” and are limited to 140 characters of text. Users can fplow other users, or become fplowers of other users, and see their updates in their feeds. Users can post their own updates called tweets; they can also retweet or quote another user’s tweet, which means that they republish that tweet to their fplowers. Twitter was created in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass, and currently has 200 million active users.
The integration of Miro and Twitter will allow users to watch videos on Miro through the power of Twitter. This will allow users to integrate their favorite videos into their daily lives. For example, if a user sees a great video on YouTube, he or she could then re-watch that video through Miro and share it with his or her friends through the power of Twitter. The benefit of this integration is that it will take away the need to go back to YouTube just to watch that video again. It will also allow the user to re-watch that video without having to leave the comfort of his or her computer. This integration would save time for the user, while still allowing him or her to watch the videos he or she loves.
