MINDBODY, Inc. was founded in 2001 by CEO Ryan Howard and CTO Joe Zadeh. Based in Los Angeles, the company provides software to more than 18,000 independent health clubs, spas, physical therapists and other independent businesses that use its services on a subscription basis. In 2014, the company introduced shippit, which allows customers to book appointments online with local businesses that provide services such as fitness training, massages and sporting goods that are delivered directly to their homes.
Shippit is a service that integrates with MINDBODY mobile apps and websites allowing clients to book appointments online for fitness training, massages and sporting goods that are delivered directly to their homes. It was developed by the same engineers who built the eCommerce platform for MINDBODY 10 years ago. Clients can schedule appointments for health club classes, personal training sessions and massages from a single app or website and receive discounted rates for the services. Shippit also enables MINDBODY’s customers to select and purchase items from shippit retailers, such as sneakers, swimwear and gpf accessories, and have them shipped directly to their homes.
When users sign up for the shippit platform they will be able to select “Fitness & Massage” from a drop down list of categories such as “Services & Activities”. The user will then be able to select from a list of fitness and health center locations in their area and choose the business that they wish to use. Upon choosing a location, the user will be taken to that business’s individual website where they can select the service they wish to schedule.
When choosing a service, the user must enter their address and zip code in order for shippit to find a location near them. If the user enters an invalid address or zip code, an error message will appear asking them to try again with valid information. When selecting a service, there will be two options for each. one option being the standard service offered at that location, and another option being a discounted option offered by shippit (for example; a discounted gym membership.
The user will then have the option to edit the date and time they wish to receive their appointment based on availability at the location they selected. This information will be saved so that when they are ready to book their appointment, they will only need to click “Book Appointment”; however, if they wish to re-enter this information they may do so at any time. Once they submit their appointment request, it will land in the inbox of a representative at whichever business or spa they are booking their appointment at and they will contact the user with availability and times for their requested appointment.
Once an appointment is scheduled through shippit, clients will receive a confirmation email notifying them of their appointment time as well as any cancellation ppicies that may apply. If the client has purchased any items through shippit, these items will be shipped directly to their home within 3 business days after the appointment date. If the client does not cancel prior to 24 hours before their scheduled appointment time, they will be charged for their service and receive no reimbursement. If the client wishes to cancel his or her appointment less than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time, he or she may do so but will still be charged.
