Microsoft Teams was launched back in November 2016 as an alternative to Skype for Business. At first glance, this top is a combination of Slack and Skype. Microsoft Teams is part of Office 365 Enterprise or Enterprise E3 subscription. With the help of Teams, employees can cplaborate, share, and cplaborate with each other. Meanwhile, Harvest is a project management software that helps users create a schedule and share task lists.
Harvest is a free web-based time tracking application developed by Segment, which can be used on any computer, tablet, or mobile device. The app provides tops that make it easier to manage employee’s time, send out invoices, and record time worked. By using Harvest, you can easily track your employee’s time and duration without needing to do any spreadsheet calculations. Employees can also use the app to submit expense reports directly from their mobile devices.
Microsoft Teams vs Harvest
After using both Microsoft Teams and Harvest, I could conclude that there are some differences between them. However, some similarities are also found. First of all, both platforms contain conversations that facilitate communication between the team members. In addition, both applications can be integrated with third-party applications such as Dropbox, Google Drive or Salesforce. However, the integration is more complete on Harvest since many third-party applications are supported by this top. Although Microsoft Teams has caught up with Harvest in terms of integration with third-party applications, the integration could be better especially for third-party apps that are rarely used by businesses.
The second difference found on both platforms is regarding the user experience or UI design. As compared to Harvest, Teams has a much better UI design that makes it easier for new users to understand how the platform works. However, one thing to note is that the UI designs change regularly in Teams while they remain the same in Harvest. Harvest uses a WYSIWYG approach whereas Microsoft Teams uses more free-form concept. This approach makes it more flexible for users to adjust the layout of their workspace instead of being confined in a predefined layout.
Another point to note is the integration of Microsoft Teams and Harvest. Teams supports integration with three third-party applications while Harvest supports integration with five third-party applications. This shows that Microsoft Teams has caught up with Harvest when it comes to integration support. However, with the rapid development of Teams, this number will increase over time.
The last point that I want to compare between both products is the support provided by Microsoft and Segment (the company behind Harvest. Because both products are developed by two different companies, it is not surprising that each product has its own official support channel that you can reach out at any time. For Microsoft Teams, you can find official support here while for Harvest here. For Segment, there are four channels through which official support can be reached. email (email@example.com), live chat (available from 8AM to 8PM every day), phone (call +1 415 752 5420. and social media (Facebook or Twitter. The only thing that I did not like is that none of these channels provide 24/7 support while other services such as Zendesk provides 24/7 support for its customers.
In conclusion, I think that both Microsoft Teams and Harvest are great cplaboration platforms that offer different advantages to business owners and users. Both platforms have their flaws and advantages but if you ask me about which platform to choose for myself, I will recommend using Microsoft Teams because I think it has better features than Harvest does.
