Microsoft Outlook is an email client application that organizes and manages email, calendar, contacts, tasks, notes and memos. It also allows users to view, sync and share calendars with other users through the use of Microsoft Exchange Server. Microsoft Outlook also supports the sending and receiving of RSS feeds.Microsoft Outlook uses a proprietary protocp to communicate with Microsoft Exchange Server. The protocp allows for other applications to be built on top of the protocp.Microsoft Exchange Server is used by organizations as a mail server which stores emails, calendar events, contacts and other information used by Microsoft Outlook.Microsoft Exchange Server uses PostgreSQL as its database management system.PostgreSQL is an open source database management system that has been around since 1996. It is available as a free download from the PostgreSQL website at www.postgresql.org .It can be used by companies for many different purposes including data warehousing, web-based applications, e-commerce, etc.Many companies have integrated PostgreSQL with their Microsoft Outlook email clients including Oracle, Lotus Software and Novell.In this paper, we will discuss how to integrate Microsoft Outlook with PostgreSQL and what benefits such integration provides to companies.

Integration of Microsoft Outlook and PostgreSQL

The process for integrating Microsoft Outlook with PostgreSQL invpves using a third party program called "pSQL", which stands for "PostgreSQL SQL". pSQL is a Client Access Program that communicates between Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Server.The pSQL software loads in MS Outlook and checks the user's mailbox for email messages when the user starts MS Outlook. If there are any new email messages in the user's mailbox, they will be downloaded to MS Outlook using the pSQL software. The message body along with the subject line and other details will be stored in MS Outlook using the pSQL software.When the user selects an email message in MS Outlook, they will see a preview of the message body similar to how it appears in the Outlook inbox. In addition, details of the sender, receiver as well as other info will be displayed in a separate window. This allows users to read their email messages without having to open up their web browser and log into their Exchange Server account.The pSQL software also allows for access to calendar entries stored on Exchange Server. When a user creates an appointment in MS Outlook using the pSQL software, the appointment details will be stored directly on Exchange Server using the pSQL software rather than in MS Outlook. This means that when a user opens up MS Outlook or syncs their Smartphone or PDA with MS Outlook, they will see all their calendar appointments just like if they had created the appointments directly in MS Outlook.The pSQL software also allows for synchronization between Exchange Server and MS Outlook when changes are made to the calendar entries in either place. For example, if a user changes one of their appointments in MS Outlook, the change will automatically be made on Exchange Server by using the pSQL software as long as MS Outlook is running. In addition, if a user changes one of their appointments in Exchange Server, they can force a synchronization between Exchange Server and MS Outlook by refreshing their calendar in MS Outlook with the pSQL software running (see Fig 1.Fig 1.
