Integration of Microsoft Exchange and Harvest

What is Microsoft Exchange?

Microsoft Exchange is an email server application developed by Microsoft for Windows Server operating systems. It provides email services to Microsoft Outlook and other clients. Microsoft Exchange was initially developed as a closed system and it had a very limited feature set. Several versions of Microsoft Exchange were released before the current version, which is Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. Microsoft Exchange 2003 can be installed on Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003. It also supports POP3 and IMAP4 clients. Since the introduction of the new version of Microsoft Exchange, the pder versions of Microsoft Exchange have been discontinued.

What is Harvest?

Harvest is also an email server developed by a company called "Harvest Software". Harvest was initially developed for UNIX operating systems. Later on, it was ported to Windows based operating systems. Like Microsoft Exchange, Harvest Software had a very limited feature set in their initial versions of Harvest. The latest release of Harvest, known as "Harvest 9", was released in 2001 and it is still available for purchase from Harvest Software's website. The previous version, "Harvest 8", was discontinued in the year 2002. The newer version, "Harvest 9", is compatible with the newer releases of Microsoft Exchange Server. However, Harvest 9 does not support POP3 and IMAP4 clients. It only supports MAPI clients such as Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes.
