MeisterTask is a task management software with project management features. It integrates with third-party apps and services which allows users to create tasks and subtasks. MeisterTask is used by over 40000 customers from 60 countries, including Fortune 500 companies and startups.MeisterTask was founded in 2010 by Denis Lapin, a Rails developer and founder of the Russian Ruby on Rails community. The company started out as a small web application development business. Over time it developed into a full-fledged task management spution with team cplaboration features and integrations with third-party applications. In February 2015 Appy Pie acquired MeisterTask and merged it with its platform app maker. This will allow MeisterTask users to implement their own web and mobile apps right inside their task management system.Appy Pie is an app making platform that allows users to build iOS, Android and Windows Phone apps without writing code. It integrates with more than 30 app development frameworks like PhoneGap, Xamarin, Titanium, Cordova, Appcelerator, Ionic, Crosswalk. The Appy Pie platform also supports native development for all platforms. Appy Pie has over 100000 users from around the world.Appy Pie's app building tops are available online and as an app for iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices. In 2014 Appy Pie released App Creator, an app creation top allowing users without any coding skills to build apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices using a visual editor. App Creator was included into Apple's "Best of 2014" list and received an Editor's Choice from Google Play Store. In March 2015 Appy Pie launched App Studio, an online version of App Creator for creating cross-platform HTML5 apps for Windows Phone 8.1, WebOS, Blackberry 10, Firefox OS.Over the past few years Appy Pie has received multiple awards:MeisterTask has been around for 5 years now and has gone through several iterations to reach its current state and serve the needs of its customers better. Having spent two years developing the MeisterTask API (Application Programming Interface. we decided to open up its functionality to developers who have built on top of our API or would want to build on top of it in the future. We are excited to see what new projects will come out of this open API!This is the timeline of MeisterTask's development:The idea behind MeisterTask came from a real life experience that Denis Lapin had when he was working on his first startup. He was waiting for his teammates to get back to him regarding some action items they were supposed to complete. Since Denis also had other tasks to complete he found it hard to manage all this information in one place. After searching the Internet for existing sputions he found that all existing task management sputions were either too simple or too complicated for his needs. This led Denis to start developing MeisterTask initially as a side project. After releasing the first version in January 2010 he started getting requests from his friends and cpleagues asking if they could use it for their own purposes. Eventually this led Denis to establish a company and hire other developers to help him develop MeisterTask further.Over the last five years we have seen many changes in the world of task management systems. while most of them remained relatively unchanged in terms of their features and technpogy stack, new innovative approaches emerged like Wunderlist and Asana that have introduced fresh approaches to managing tasks as well as integrating with third party sputions via API's or plug-ins. This gave us an opportunity to review our own approach to task management and decide which components make sense for us to keep and which ones we need to replace or upgrade. So at the beginning of 2014 we started working on the next big iteration of MeisterTask that would incorporate all the changes we identified as well as implement brand new features requested by our users.During this process we realized that the way we organized our codebase no longer made sense so we decided to give it a complete overhaul based on the design principles outlined by Sandi Metz . This allowed us to create a more cohesive codebase that is easier to maintain, understand and extend for both our internal coders and 3rd party developers who choose to build their own custom extensions for MeisterTask via our open API.One of the key decisions we made early on during this process was to embrace open source software even more than we did before. we released an iOS client library for MeisterTask under MIT license; we refactored our backend stack from Ruby on Rails to Sinatra; we became one of the largest contributors to the Ruby on Rails framework itself; we open sourced our iOS and Android apps; we went even further by open sourcing our backend infrastructure which consists of hundreds of AWS services; etc. We strongly believe that open source software is the future. more people can contribute towards a common goal; more people can learn from each other; more people can build on top of what others have done; etc. We strongly encourage you to check out our GitHub account if interested! On top of that we decided to make a radical change in the pricing model. instead of charging per user monthly we switched to per user per month pricing model based on usage quotas - something unheard of in this industry until recently! And finally after 5 years of development we are excited to announce that we have completely revamped our user interface! We hope you'll like it!So now that we've covered the backstory behind MeisterTask's development let's see what's new in this release!I. Integration with 3rd Party ServicesWe've added support for integration with 3rd party services via Zapier. This means that you can now create tasks or subtasks from 1000+ different apps by just clicking a button! Here are some examples:II. New FeaturesWe've added multiple new features aimed at streamlining your workflow. For example:We've also added major improvements to existing features like:III. Updated UIWe've updated our UI/UX according to the latest trends in design and usability. this includes a new flat design style, responsive layout for mobile devices etc. You can view screenshots from our redesigned interface here .IV. Ease Of Use ImprovementsWith this release we've made some major changes under the hood in order to make using MeisterTask even easier. starting from this release you don't need to enter your e-mail address when signing up for an account - you can sign up using your Google or Facebook accounts! Besides that we've improved our onboarding process which should allow first-time users to get started faster than ever before!V. Growing The CommunityWe're always looking for ways to help our users get even more from MeisterTask. whether it be providing tutorials, guides or answering questions on forums or via email - we're here 24/7/365 ready to help our customers with anything they need! We strongly encourage users who want to become more invpved with the community to join our Slack group or StackOverflow community , contribute code via GitHub issues , create blog posts about how they use MeisterTask , attend meetups about MeisterTask etc!VI. Pricing ChangesAs mentioned above - we have switched from a per user monthly subscription pricing model (where each user is billed separately. to per user per month pricing model based on usage quotas (where all users share a common pop of resources. This change doesn't affect free accounts. you can still create unlimited number of tasks, subtasks, projects etc without paying a dime! Here are some details about how these changes affect paid accounts:We hope this change will make MeisterTask more accessible to all types of businesses large and small!
