Integration of MailChimp and Google Photos

According to its website, MailChimp is a leading email marketing service and online marketing tops provider. Its mission is to help businesses connect with their customers through newsletters, social media, and a variety of other channels (MailChimp, 2017. MailChimp's tagline is “putting e-mail in the inbox”, which implies that it provides high quality email campaigns for its users. Furthermore, MailChimp is designed specifically for small business. There are four packages offered by MailChimp, which include the Starter, Pro, Business, and Agency plan. The starter plan allows users to send up to 12,000 emails a month. The Pro plan allows users to send up to 500,000 emails a month. The Business plan allows users to send up to 2 million emails a month. The last plan, the Agency plan, allows users to send up to 5 million emails a month (MailChimp, 2017. It also includes additional features such as built-in A/B testing and Google Analytics integration for tracking your campaign's performance (MailChimp, 2017. It has been growing rapidly since its launch in 2001 (Douglas, 2015. and now has over 10 million users worldwide (Dinan, 2015. It is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia (MailChimp, 2017.

Google Photos does just what it says. it automatically organizes photos by date and location (Google, 2016. There is no way to choose the photos you want to upload; it automatically goes through all the photos on your phone. Google Photos gives you an option to view your photos on its website or through its app. The website version is similar to the app version except that it shows fewer options on the home screen since there is not a grid format like the app version. You can look at your pictures in the timeline view which shows how many pictures there are for each day. Clicking on a specific day will show you all the pictures taken that day. You can also search by keyword, location, or other options. Since there is no option to choose which photos you would like to upload, all of them are available for viewing on the website or app. This means that if you don't want certain pictures showing up on Google Photos, then do not upload them onto your phone (Google Photos, 2016.

Google Photos was launched in May 2015 (SlashGear, 2015. It supports Android phones running 4.2 Jelly Bean or later versions (Google Photos, 2016), although some users have discovered that it works on devices with 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich installed (Granger, 2015.

Integration of MailChimp and Google Photos

In order for MailChimp and Google Photos to integrate together, MailChimp needs to have an application programming interface (API. to allow developers to integrate its software with other software applications (Yuryevich & Yuryevich, 2013. An API uses a set of routines, protocps, and tops for building software applications (Yuryevich & Yuryevich, 2013. Developers can use an API as a program to create apps that work with another program (Yuryevich & Yuryevich, 2013. For example, there are several apps including Evernote and Microsoft Outlook that use the Gmail API so that users can access their Gmail account from within the app (Yuryevich & Yuryevich, 2013. If there was no Gmail API then developers could not create these apps because they would not be able to access Gmail information from within the app (Yuryevich & Yuryevich, 2013. Since MailChimp is already integrated with several other applications such as Salesforce and Zapier via API (MailChimp, 2017), it may be possible for Google Photos to use MailChimp's API as well.

Benefits of Integration of MailChimp and Google Photos

If Google Photos was integrated with MailChimp via API then it would benefit both companies as well as their users. It would benefit Google Photos because it could give them advantages over other photo organizing applications such as Flickr and Dropbox. It would benefit Google Photos because it could provide more ways for people to share photos. Currently there are two ways for people to share their photos. either they share them directly from Google Photos or they share them from Facebook or Twitter since those social media sites have partnered up with Google Photos (Siciliano, 2014. If Google Photos integrates with MailChimp then this would mean that people could share their photos from within Mailchimp as well as from Facebook and Twitter. This would allow people who use Mailchimp to still share their photos with their friends through Facebook and Twitter even though they do not use either of those social media platforms. Google Photos would benefit because having an API could increase traffic since more people would be able to share photos from within Google Photos. Having an API would make it easier for developers to create new apps that integrate with Google Photos. For example, if there was an Instagram app that used MailChimp's API then people would be able to post their Instagram pictures onto their email newsletter via MailChimp without leaving Instagram. This would make it easier for people who use Instagram from posting their pictures without having to switch back and forth between Instagram and other email applications on their phone.

In conclusion, while it may seem impossible for MailChimp and Google Photos to get together since they are competitors in their own right (MailChimp vs. Google Photos), it could actually happen if both companies decide that it would benefit them in the long run. If Google Photos developed its own API then developers could develop apps using its API that could make it easier for people who use social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter to post their pictures onto their email newsletter via MailChimp without leaving the social media site they are using. If Mailchimp developed its own API then social media sites like Facebook or Twitter could develop apps that use Mailchimp's API so that people who use those social media platforms can still share their pictures onto their email newsletter via MailChimp even though they do not use either of those applications themselves.
