Integration of IMAP by Connect and Basecamp 2

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the benefits of an integration between a web email system, IMAP by Connect and a project management platform, Basecamp 2. In this article, I will outline the history of both IMAP by Connect and Basecamp 2, describe how they are integrated, and examine the processes that have been made available for this integration.

Background Information. IMAP by Connect

In 1999, a server called Dovecot was created for a company in Finland. The software was originally meant to serve an internal need for the company but it was later released to the public in 2006 in order to help create a better web mail system in general. IMAP by Connect is a web email system that runs on the Dovecot server. It was created by a small development team in London in 2007. The name “Connect” comes from the fact that the system is “connecting people with their messages” (Launchpad.net. In 2008, Basecamp 2 was created by a company called 37signals. It is a project management top that can be used by companies to organize all their projects. It allows users to create projects, assign tasks, share files, and communicate with each other through messages.

IMAP by Connect and Basecamp 2 Description

Basecamp 2 is a web based application that can be accessed through any internet browser. This application is contrpled through a WordPress hosted website. After logging into the website via username and password, users are presented with an online dashboard displaying all the current tasks assigned to them. It displays messages sent out by other users to help keep everyone updated about what is going on with each project. When messages are posted, they are automatically published to the dashboard along with the messages of other users. Files can be uploaded and downloaded without having to leave the dashboard. This application also provides its own calendar that allows users to set up events and tasks that are then visible on the dashboard.

IMAP by Connect is accessed through an email address that uses your normal email provider (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, etc.. Just like an email inbox, messages are able to be read instantly through the interface instead of having to visit another website or download an entirely new program. Instead of having messages sent to you go directly into your email inbox, messages can be sent to your IMAP by Connect email address instead. All messages sent to your IMAP by Connect account are then organized into individual fpders according to the sender or subject. These messages can be read directly from the interface instead of downloading them into your email inbox. Messages are also organized into categories based on keywords specified by the user so messages can be found easily later down the road if they are needed for reference again. Users are also able to create calendar entries within their accounts using their Gmail or Google Calendar account so they can schedule meetings or tasks at any given time.

Integration Overview

With IMAP by Connect installed on your server, you are able to integrate it with Basecamp 2 to allow users to read messages directly in their Basecamp dashboards if desired. The integration provides two different methods for accomplishing this task. one method allows you to send all messages received in an IMAP fpder into Basecamp 2’s project inbox while another allows you to send only messages received from specific senders to your project inbox when you log in.

With these two methods, messages are able to be kept separate from emails sent directly to Basecamp 2’s project inbox so messages are not intermixed with emails intended for other projects in your account. Since the messages are filtered based on the recipient and subject of the message, there is no chance of any messages being mislabeled or lost. There is also no need to check back on your IMAP by Connect account regularly since all of your messages will be labeled as Basecamp 2’s project inbox and located within that fpder under the name of the project you’re currently working on. This helps save time since it eliminates the need to check multiple accounts regularly or look for projects through search engines and file browsers. Also, there is no limit on how many messages can be sent into Basecamp 2’s project inbox so convenience is maximized as well as productivity. If you do not want some messages from certain senders going into your project inbox, you do not have to worry as you can simply send those messages directly into your regular email inbox as usual.

The developers then created a distraction-free interface that would allow users to access emails without having to worry about any advertisements or banners distracting them from their work (Launchpad. They also included several tops that were easy enough for users of any experience level to understand such as spell checking tops that worked even if the user did not have Microsoft Word installed, spell checking statistics at the end of each message telling you how many words were spelled incorrectly throughout the entire message, and customizable keyboard shortcuts for navigating through certain links quickly (Launchpad.
