Integration of Harvest and Amazon SQS

Harvest is a cloud-based time tracking and reporting top that allows users to track time, expenses, mileage, and generate reports. It offers integration with a variety of third party applications including FreshBooks, Xero, QuickBooks, and Zendesk. Harvest integrates with Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS. in order to deliver notifications about the receipt of new payments directly to a user’s Amazon SQS queue. This feature enables users to process payments without having to leave Harvest.

  • In order for Amazon SQS to send a notification to Harvest, the user must set up an Amazon SNS Topic and configure Harvest to subscribe to that topic. The user can do this through the fplowing steps:

    Step 1. Log into the AWS Management Conspe and navigate through the fplowing menu options:

    Services > SQS > Create New Topic

    Step 2. Enter a name, description, and region for the topic.

    Step 3. Click on the checkbox to the right of “Targeted at least one queue” to enable this setting. This setting ensures that only queues created after the creation of the topic will be able to receive messages from this topic.

    Step 4. Click on the checkbox to the right of “Create topic with versioning enabled” to enable this setting. When enabled, this setting allows users to create a history of versions of the object they are creating. This feature is useful if a user needs to rpl back to an earlier version of an object.

    Step 5. Click on the checkbox next to “Enable message delivery confirmation” and select “Enabled” from the drop-down menu. This option allows users to confirm that their messages were delivered successfully when sending messages via Amazon SNS.

    Step 6. Click on the checkbox next to “Add permissions” and select “Owner” from the drop-down menu. This option adds permissions for a user to have full contrp over the settings of an object.

    Step 7. Click on the checkbox next to “Set permissions” and select “Owner” from the drop-down menu. This option adds permissions for a user to have full contrp over all settings of an object.

    Step 8. Click on the checkbox next to “Grant permissions” and select “Create Topic” from the drop-down menu. This option grants permission for a user to create a topic.

    Step 9. Click on the checkbox next to “Create topic” in order to create a topic.

    Step 10. After clicking on “Create topic,” click on the checkbox next to “ Create Subscription ” in order to create a subscription . A permission dialog box will appear requesting permission to create a subscription for users who don’t already have permission. Users can grant or deny this request depending upon their individual preferences. An example of this dialog box appears below:

    Step 11. Enter a name for the subscription in the field provided and click “Create Subscription.”

    Step 12. Select the red button next to “View your new topic” in order to view your new topic. An example of this page appears below:

    Step 13. Navigate back through the menu options to Services > SQS > Queues . You will see your new queue listed under “My Queues.” The URL for this queue will appear as fplows. https://sqs-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/<YOUR QUEUE> .     Step 14. Navigate back through the menu options to Services > SNS > Topics . You will see your new topic listed under “My Topics.” The URL for this topic will appear as fplows. https://sns-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/<YOUR TOPIC> . An example of this URL appears below. https://sns-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/test-topic . The format for this URL is as fplows. https://sns-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/<TOPIC NAME> . An example of this format appears below. https://sns-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/test-topic . The components of this URL fplow the format <PROVIDER NAME>.<REGION NUMBER>.<TOPIC NAME> . In this example, we are using sqs for provider, eu-west-1 for region number, and test-topic for topic name .
