Integration of GoToTraining and Netlify

GoToTraining?

GoToTraining is a cloud-based training platform that allows users to record and run online training sessions. These training sessions can be conducted using a number of different devices including a desktop computer, a smartphone, or even a tablet.

GoToTraining also provides courses for some of the most popular software programs in the world including Autodesk, IBM, and Microsoft software. This creates an opportunity for developers to increase their knowledge base in these applications and make it more appealing to future employers.

GoToTraining has been around since 1997 and has worked with over 10,000 clients. With each client, they have been able to streamline the process of creating a training program and then running it on the GoToTraining platform. This has helped their clients save time and money. Because GoToTraining has been around for over 20 years, they have built up a large library of courses and are often known as one of the best sources for online training.

Netlify?

Netlify is a cloud based web hosting service, similar to AWS S3, which allows both individuals and businesses to manage and host their websites. Netlify allows developers to easily create sites and customize them as they please without having to worry about the backend infrastructure required to host the website. This makes it easy for developers to focus on adding features to their websites as opposed to worrying about how the site will be hosted.

Netlify was founded in 2015 by Christina Vee where she was looking for ways to simplify the process of publishing content to the web. The idea for Netlify came from her experience with the static site generator Jekyll in which she found that using Jekyll provided many benefits but also had some drawbacks. Jekyll did not have an integrated static web server that could be used with GitHub and other publishing services like Travis CI and CircleCI. The lack of this integration led Christina Vee to start working on creating her own static web server, which eventually became Netlify.

Integration of GoToTraining and Netlify

GoToTraining offers two different ways for people to host their training programs. The first option is to upload the video training files and other resources directly to GoToTraining.com where they can be accessed via GoToTraining’s site or by embedding them on another website (i.e. your company website. Alternatively, users can choose to download a zip file containing all of the videos and other necessary files and use the hosted version of GoToTraining by pointing the domain to their FTP server or Netlify account. Using Netlify’s free tier, developers can host unlimited sites with unlimited storage and bandwidth. Therefore, if you upload your GoToTraining videos through Netlify, you can host your videos using Netlify’s free tier, while keeping all of your videos accessible through GoToTraining’s site. In addition, if you choose to use GoToTraining’s paid tier, all of your videos will still be accessible through GoToTraining’s website along with any other resources you may need.

Benefits of Integration of GoToTraining and Netlify

Using GoToTraining with Netlify has many benefits:

Cost Savings - Both Netlify and GoToTraining allow you to host your files for free when using their respective free tiers. Therefore, if you are already paying for training through GoToTraining, there is no additional cost to use Netlify as your web host. Increased Security - Using Netlify means that you no longer need to worry about backups or security issues because Netlify takes care of everything for you. This frees you up to spend your time developing your product instead of worrying about what could potentially go wrong with your site. Increased Accessibility - If you are using GoToTraining’s paid tier, users will be able to access all of your training directly through GoToTraining’s website. However, if you use Netlify’s free tier, users can still access your videos through GoToTraining’s website even though they are hosted on Netlify. Improved Accessibility - If you want to add features or change something on your site, you can do so by making changes on your server using Git or FTP without having to worry about whether it will affect your training program or not. Additonally, if you want to move your site to another host in the future, moving an entire site hosted on Netlify is simple because all of your files are stored in Git repositories which can be easily moved to another host with just a few modifications. Faster Updates - When you are on the paid tier of GoToTraining, every time you need to update a video or resource, you must upload new files directly through their site which may take a long time depending on your internet connection speed and the amount of data being uploaded. But if you are hosting your videos on Netlify, updating content is as simple as making a change in Git and pushing back up which will automatically update any changes you made right away in real-time without having to wait for anything else. Better Customer Experience - Since all of your videos are hosted on Netlify’s servers instead of yours, customers will no longer see error messages when trying to view your videos. Also, if someone gets really far into a course before it expires, they will have access to those videos again after re-subscribing through GoToTraining’s site since all of your videos are stored in Git repositories. Additionally, since everything is hosted in Git repositories on Netlify’s servers, there is no longer any concern about expiring videos or resources since anyone who has access to the repository can view or update any changes as they are made. Easier Updates - You can update a video from anywhere by pushing the updated version back up to Netlify which will automatically update your videos immediately without having to go through any other steps such as uploading files directly through GoToTraining’s website.
