GoToMeeting is a web conferencing software that allows its users to host, attend or call online meetings. GoToMeeting enables people to get together for face-to-face interaction without having to actually be in the same place. It was founded by Bill Wohl in 2003.
Alegra, which stands for “are you listening?” is one of the most popular programs used by the students all over the world. It is a top for note taking and class preparation. It can record audio lectures, edit them later and save them to MP3s. It can also make notes while recording the lectures. Alegra is created by an IT company called Acunote Inc.
Integration of these two products is achieved via a web server that acts as a relay between the two clients. There are different options for this relay server, but the easiest way to integrate them is through a terminal server. A terminal server has the capability of accepting incoming calls from remote users over the Internet. The user puts the address of the terminal server into his GoToMeeting client and it automatically relays all the audio and video information to the terminal server. The terminal server accepts the information and sends it to the user’s Alegra client. This process works in reverse when receiving calls from clients outside of your organization. As long as both the products are on the same server, it will work flawlessly.
The integration of these two products makes the entire process of teaching much easier for instructors. It allows them to use multiple methods of communication at once, instead of just one. Instructors can make audio recordings using Alegra and later share them with other students who are not able to attend the class in person. They can also share their desktop with other students in order to show them what they are doing when working on assignments.
