    Google Sheets is a cloud-based spreadsheet application offered by Google. It is part of the Google Drive productivity suite. It was launched on April 24, 2006, to compete with other spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, and LibreOffice Calc. Using Google Sheets, one can create and edit spreadsheets online while cplaborating with other users in real-time. It also allows users to share spreadsheets and work together on them simultaneously. Unlike its major competitor Excel, it does not support macros. However, it provides add-ons developed by third-party developers. Google Sheets supports most of the features present in Microsoft Excel. It also provides additional features like online cplaboration, real-time cplaboration, etc. It allows users to insert photos and videos in spreadsheets. Users can protect their spreadsheets from unwanted edits using various security settings. To access hidden cells or rows, one needs to enable the “View -> Hidden Rows/Cells” option. This feature is absent in Excel. It also allows users to insert various chart types like bar chart, line graph, pie chart, etc. in a spreadsheet. In addition to text data, it can also handle date and time data in the form of a datetime object. This feature is absent in Excel. One can use data validation feature to restrict input data in a cell to a specific type of data. For example, you can validate that all the values entered in a cell are numbers or dates only. This feature is absent in Excel. You can convert an existing spreadsheet file into a Google Sheet or import data from an existing spreadsheet file into a Google Sheet using the import function available under “File -> Import/Export” menu tab.
