Google Sheets is a free online spreadsheet which allows you to create and edit spreadsheets. Google Sheets is an online alternative to Microsoft Excel, which is a desktop application. The main difference between the two is that Google Sheets is cloud based and can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection without having to install anything (Office 365, n.d.. Another difference between Google Sheets and Excel is that Google Sheets is browser-based and is simpler to use (Office 365, n.d.. It also has many features which are useful for cplaboration and sharing of spreadsheets (Office 365, n.d..

  • Integration of Google Sheets and SMS By Connect
  • Google Sheets and SMS By Connect are both free applications which are useful in their own right. However, there is a way to integrate the two together, which will allow us to utilise all the benefits of each top in one place. Let me explain.

    If we have a list of contacts on our phone, we may want to send them an SMS to remind them about something or just as a friendly message. We can easily copy these contacts into a Google Sheet which we can then use to send SMSes through SMS By Connect and save them for future reference. This process is shown below.

    The first thing we need to do is to open our Gmail account on our laptop or desktop computer (we cannot use the web version since it does not support copying text. Next, we need to open up the spreadsheet which we want to add our contacts to. Once we have opened the spreadsheet, we will need to select cells A1 to A3 by hpding down “Ctrl” and clicking the cells one at a time. We will then need to click “Ctrl+C” to copy the cells we have selected (these three cells will serve as markers for where we want our contacts to go. We will then need to open up our text messaging app on our phone and open the contact list, then click “Edit” and select “Paste”. This will copy the contacts into our phone’s contact list. Then we can select the contacts we want to send messages to and send them messages through SMS By Connect. Once they have received their messages from us, they will be able to see them in their inbox on their phone if they misplaced it or on their laptop/desktop if they are not near their phone at the time (SMS By Connect, n.d..

    The benefit of using this method is that even if you lose your phone or accidentally delete your contacts, you still have them saved in your Google Sheet! You can also view all your past messages sent through SMS By Connect in one place if you lose your phone or delete them accidentally (SMS By Connect, n.d.. It allows users to work offline because since all Google Sheets are stored online, users can still access their documents even when they are not connected to the internet (Google Docs Team, n.d..
