Integration of Google Groups and Vimeo

The Internet has brought many changes in the way we communicate. Now, everything can be done online. From paying bills to shopping, there are numerous services available. Moreover, people are able to communicate with others through email, instant messaging, forums, and other modes. However, there is a need to group people together for specific activities. For instance, if you are running a business, you may require specific people to be part of a mailing list.

To facilitate this, Google Groups was introduced in 2001. It was primarily used to create lists of people based on areas of interests or expertise. There was also a function that enabled you to send emails to the lists. Thus, this helped to enhance communication. If you required more information about the group, you could simply go to the group’s website.

However, recently, Google has decided to integrate Google Groups with their video sharing website Vimeo. The integration will help users to get more updates about what’s happening in their groups. This move by Google is an attempt to bring all its services closer together. The blog post by Google reads. “We’re excited to announce that Google Groups has been integrated with Vimeo so that groups can share videos right alongside discussions around them.”

Google made this announcement on October 28th. The new feature will provide members of the groups with the ability to embed videos from Vimeo. The videos will be displayed along with articles and messages in the groups. Google explained that this would be helpful for various reasons. For instance, if someone has created a video that relates to your group’s subject, then you can embed it directly in the group. Thus, other members will be able to view it easily. Moreover, Google stated that this will make it easier for members to share videos within the groups while retaining the “anonymity” of the group.

Moreover, once this feature is activated, any person who wishes to join the group will get an invitation email that contains links to videos embedded in the group. This will enable them to see what is happening in the group before deciding whether or not they want to join it.

Google added that this feature is available for community managers and admins only. They would have to enable it using their Admin account. Admin can activate this feature for all users or enable it only for certain users. However, this feature is not yet available for all groups. You can use the link http://vimeo.com/groups/enable to see which groups support it and which ones don’t.

Google has taken another step towards improving its services for its users. The integration of Google Groups with Vimeo is another attempt by Google to create unity among its services. Thus, it would become much easier for its users to share information about their favorite groups with other people.
