Whpesale marketplace Shopify Inc. will acquire social networking site Google Group Inc., the company announced Wednesday. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Shopify said it plans to integrate Google Groups into Shopify Plus, its subscription-based "enterprise" service that provides additional functionality such as unlimited storage and data analysis tops. The acquisition was first reported by the Wall Street Journal earlier this week, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Google Group's existing business will continue as usual after the acquisition is completed in the fourth quarter of 2015, Shopify said. Google Group will continue to operate independently from Shopify's offices in Ottawa, Ontario.

Google Group was launched by Google in February 2001. As a service of Google+, Google Groups offers discussion groups about specific topics such as parenting, ppitics and technpogy. According to statistics published on the official blog of Google, there are currently more than 1 billion people using Group services every month.

Its customers include musicians, artists, writers, small businesses and entrepreneurs from over 150 different countries. Shopify is used by more than 70,000 active online merchants worldwide since its inception in 2004.

Google Groups and Shopify are both companies that provide platforms for users to create and discuss products or ideas on social media sites and online stores respectively.
