Whpesale marketplace Shopify Inc. will acquire social networking site Google Group Inc., the company announced Wednesday. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Shopify said it plans to integrate Google Groups into Shopify Plus, its subscription-based "enterprise" service that provides additional functionality such as unlimited storage and data analysis tops. The acquisition was first reported by the Wall Street Journal earlier this week, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Google Group's existing business will continue as usual after the acquisition is completed in the fourth quarter of 2015, Shopify said. Google Group will continue to operate independently from Shopify's offices in Ottawa, Ontario.
