If you have ever read an academic paper, chances are that it was written using APA formatting guidelines. The purpose of this article format is to make it easier for readers to access specific information about your topic. This adds value to your writing because it makes it more accessible.
There are some key elements of APA formatting that you should know before you begin writing your article. The first thing to understand is the overall layout of your paper. Your paper should fplow this format:
The first page of your article should include the fplowing information. title page, abstract, table of contents, chapters, and reference page. In addition, the title page should include a heading in all capital letters at the top of the page, as well as your name and instructor’s name in the middle. On the bottom right corner of the page, you should write “Submitted to _____ in partial fulfillment of course requirements” fplowed by your name again. The abstract is an introduction that contains a summary of what you are going to be discussing in your paper. It should be written in bullet points with each point beginning with a verb. The table of contents should be located on a separate page from your abstract and it should list each chapter and its corresponding numbers. The chapters should be written in bullet points with each point beginning with a verb. Finally, the reference page allows your readers to locate any sources that you used when writing your paper.
The rest of your paper should be organized according to the APA standard:
Page number – use Arabic numerals; center at top of page; single space; use lowercase letters; do not underline or bpdface; do not use hyphens or parentheses after the page number; and do not use a period at the end of the page number.
Margins – left margin at 6 inches; right margin at 2 inches; top margin at 1 inch; bottom margin at 1 inch; all margins use a ruler (no pencil lines); use a standard style; and do not indent first line.
