Integration of Google Calendar and Spotify

Spotify is an online music service which provides users with access to a wide variety of music that can be streamed on mobile devices and computers. Google Calendar is a calendar application that allows users to keep track of all their activities from one location. These applications are similar in the sense that they both provide users with access to information in real time.

As of January 2018, Spotify had 159 million active monthly users. Google Calendar has been around since 2004, but has only recently been integrated with Spotify. The integration of Google Calendar and Spotify allows users to see events from their Google Calendar within the Spotify app. Spotify users can add event information from their Google Calendar to the "Discover Weekly" section of their Spotify app. Discover Weekly is a feature that displays a new playlist every week consisting of songs that you may like based on your previous listening habits. If a user hasn't already used the integrated features between Google Calendar and Spotify, they will have to connect their accounts first. This is very easy to do by going to Spotify's settings, selecting "Connected services", then entering your Google account information. Users can then connect their Spotify account to the Google Calendar in two ways. They can either use the "Add by URL" method or the "Add by OAuth" method. Both methods start with going to the calendar section of Google Calendar.Once you've selected the "+ Add by URL" option, you'll need to copy a unique URL from your Spotify app. If you don't have the unique URL available, you can use the "Add by OAuth" option instead. After choosing one of these options, simply paste the URL into the field provided and click connect calendar. From this point on, any events added to your Google Calendar will appear on the Spotify app as well as any events added to your Spotify app will appear on your Google Calendar.
