What is Google Calendar?

Google Calendar is a free online calendar service offered by Google that allows users to keep track of events using an electronic calendar. Google Calendar allows users to share calendars so that others can see and edit their events. Users can post cpor-coded “circles” on the calendar to represent different groups of people. The calendar can also be synchronized with a mobile device using software from Google.Google Calendar is one of many Web-based calendar services. It competes directly with Microsoft Outlook Calendar, Yahoo! Calendar, and iCalendar (RFC 5545. Initially, users could invite other users to view specific calendar entries with them. In time, this feature was removed from the service and replaced with sharing links. This allowed third party developers to create applications for use with Google Calendar and allowed for the addition of third-party components such as tasks and notes into Google Calendar.On August 12, 2009, Google released a major update to Google Calendar including a new interface and features.
