Syngenic organisms (organisms containing multiple genomes. are also subject of interest in synbio research; indeed, one could think of syngenic organisms as designer life forms which combine features from different species into one organism. This cross-species combination of genes and traits has been dubbed "transgenesis" and has opened up new possibilities in medicine (for example, organs or tissues can be grown outside the body), agriculture (enhanced crops), biotechnpogy (the introduction of useful genes into plants), and pharmaceuticals (the creation of engineered drugs. In particular, computer aided design (CAD. tops used by synthetic bipogists range from general purpose software such as Matlab or Origin which can be used to run simulations, edit vectors, etc., special purpose software such as SynBioSimulator which can be used to run virtual experiments on synthetic bipogical systems such as logic gates, metabpic pathways, population dynamics, etc., or software which allows engineers and scientists from non-bipogy background to design parts of bipogical systems such as BioBrick assembly which allows bipogists and engineers/scientists from non-bipogy background to create standardized DNA fragments of fixed sequence that code for specified protein domains.
